Malloy had gone into there at precisely two PM as ordered. How long could it take to tell Malloy what his fate was going to be after his behavior with that child molester? Reed looked at his watch for the fifteenth time in less than a minute. Geesh, he’s been in there over forty-five minutes. He really must be getting it. The door of the lunchroom opened and Reed turned in anticipation only to be disappointed to see two of his fellow officers coming in for their morning coffee.

“Malloy still in with the Captain?” Woods asked.

Reed just nodded his head and once again looked at his watch.

“I wonder who’ll you’ll be partnered with while Malloy’s on suspension?”

Reed didn’t want to think about that. He never ridden with anyone else but Pete and he didn’t want to start now, especially during the PM watch. Maybe Mac would give him desk duty or an L-car instead of partnering him up with someone, for a few days.

“I can’t stand the wait!” he told Woods. “What’s taking so long?”

“The Captain must be really raking Pete over the coals for his behavior. After all Malloy is the training officer so his actions must be above reproach.”

“I guess so,” Reed mumbled. “I’m going to find Mac to see if he knows anything.”

Reed left the lunchroom and was making his way to Mac’s office when he spotted Malloy coming out of the Captains office. He forced himself not to run to Malloy but increased his speed, reaching his partner in record time.

“Hey, Partner. How did it go?”

Since Malloy was very good at hiding his emotions, Reed couldn’t tell what he was feeling. When Malloy didn’t answer him Reed’s voice showed signs of impatience when he yelled, “Well, are you going to tell me what happened or am I going to have to guess?”

Malloy leaned in and whispered into his Brat’s ear, “If you don’t change that tone of voice, you’ll be the one in trouble.”

“Sorry, Pete. It’s just that I’m nervous of the outcome. I didn’t mean to shout.”

“I know, Jim. I’m sorry, too. It was pretty rough in there. The Captain really read me the riot act, but it could have been worse. I guess he could have sent me in front of the Internal Affairs Board or even kicked me off the force. All I got was four days off without pay.”

“Just what you suspected, eh, Pete? When does it start?”

“Right now, Junior. Look I’m going to change then make my way home. I’ll see you tonight.”

Reed, trying to lighten the mood, whispered, “It would be nice if you met me at the door with a martini in your hand and nothing on but a smile.”

Malloy gave a little laugh at his Brat’s attempt to make him feel better.

“I won’t do that, Junior, but I’ll have a nice light home cooked meal waiting, since it will be after midnight when you get home, and I’ll also throw in a couple of loving arms, how’s that?

“I can’t wait. Ah, Pete, before you leave, could come with me to see what Mac has in store for your partner?”

“No, you’re a big boy. You can handle it all by yourself and besides if the Captain comes out and finds that I’m still here, I could be in deeper crap. See you at home.”

Reed stood in the hallway watching Malloy make his way to the locker room. H e did his best to swallow the lump that was forming in his throat as he made his way to Mac’s office. Mac was waiting for the young police officer. He could read the apprehension on the young man’s face at the thought of what lay ahead of him for the four days he’d be without his partner. Reed’s face was always an open book and he always wore his emotions on his sleeve. He tried not to show favorites among the officers under his command but he couldn’t help but have a special place in his heart for this young man. He was so sensitive, bright, inquisitive, impatient , loving and gentle. Mac understood why Malloy fell for Reed so quickly and how Malloy knew the type of relationship Reed needed. They were a perfect couple.

“Hey, Mac, how’s it going?” Reed asked as he made his way into Mac’s office and took a seat in front of the desk.

“Just great, Reed. So did Malloy get his four days off?”

“Ya, he sure did. So what about me, Mac, do I ride a desk?”

“No, actually I have a special assignment for you. I’m going to assign you to Vice for a few days. They need someone to go undercover in the park.”

“Undercover in the park? Oh come on, Mac. I don’t have to dress up like a woman and be the bait for a mugger do I?”

“Ha…Ha…Ha… No, nothing like that. It’s a more serious matter, but I’ll let detective Sgt. Wilson fill you in on the details. I told him he could only have you for two days since you are coming up to your weekend off.”

“Ya, and Pete and I are going to have my son this weekend. I can’t wait.”

“That’s great, Jim, and I know you’ll help Pete get over his new ‘dad’ nerves.”

Reed, with a twinkle in his eyes, just nodded in the affirmative as his mind played back the conversation he and Malloy had after he returned from Mac’s house.

“Okay, Reed,” Mac interrupted his thoughts, “get out of here and report to Vice.”

“Yes, Sir!” Reed stood up and with excitement and anticipation of a new assignment, he practically ran all the way to Sgt. Wilson’s office. He loved doing detective work. Sometimes being on patrol day after day could be so boring, as he keeps reminding Malloy who in turn keeps telling him being a detective isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either. Oh well, he’ll finally get a chance to see for himself.

Sgt. Ben Wilson was a big man. He stood way over six foot five, 5 inches and the years of working out in the gym was very obvious as he filled out his gray suit. He looked up from his paperwork as Reed knocked on the door then slowly peeked his head in.

“Well, kid, come all the way in. Despite the rumors going around here, I don’t bite.”

Reed was a little apprehensive at the sound of the deep, growly voice, but did his best to stop his hands from shaking as he held his hat in front of him.

“Hello, Sir…ah, Sgt. I’m Officer Jim Reed and Sgt. MacDonald told me to report to you for a special assignment.”

“Jesus, kid, how old are you, nineteen? I don’t want no rookie on this assignment.”

“I’m twenty-four, sir, and I’m no rookie. I’ve been on the force four years now. I’m Pete Malloy’s partner.”

“Ya, I know Pete, he’s one hell of a cop.”

With pride Reed answered, “He sure is, he’s the best!”

“Okay, kid, let’s take a look at you. Yes, I can see why Mac chose you. You’re very good looking and you’ve got that innocent, naïve look to you and you could pass as a gay man.”

Reed’s mouth hung open at that last statement. ‘Oh shit, what was this assignment anyway?’ he thought to himself.

Wilson gave a loud belly laugh at the expression on Reed’s face. “Don’t worry, kid. I’m not going to ask you to kiss or hold hands with a man, so relax. There has been a lot of gay bashing going on the park lately. A group of young men, who consider themselves above reproach, have been targeting young queer men and giving them quite a beating. Now the Mayor is up for re-election and the homo groups are putting pressure on him and in turn he’s putting pressure on the Chief, so we have to nip this problem in the butt so to speak. Ha, ha.”

Reed cringed at the language Wilson was using, but Pete had warned him never to react strongly to that sort of rhetoric. “Don’t give anyone reason for suspicion, just shut up and except that’s the way it is in the force.” Pete had said.

“So what do you want me to do, sir?”

“I want you to get out of that uniform and into the clothes I’ve picked out for you. Then, after you familiarize yourself with the file, make your way to the park and hang out where the homo’s hang out looking for a hand job or a quicky or whatever they do. See if you’ll attract the attention of the bashers, and don’t worry, Reed, there’ll be backup there also to protect you from all angles.” Another belly laugh came out of the detective as he laughed at his own joke. Suddenly Reed wished Mac would have given him an L-car or another partner, as he had a bad feeling about this assignment.

After reading the file, Reed reached into the bag Wilson had given to him on his way out of the office. “Oh, great!” Reed said to himself. “Talk about your stereo type clothing; pink shirt, scarf with matching pink stripes and tight white pants. God, wait till the guys get a look at me in this getup. I’ll be the laughing joke of the department.”

Reed dressed quickly then, looking at his watch, decided he had time to give Malloy a quick call to tell him he may be running a bit late. He decided to tell Malloy he was on an undercover assignment in the park, but that he’d tell him in was for narcotics, not Vice. If Pete knew what Jim would be doing in the park, he would forbid him to go, and Reed wanted the opportunity to prove he was more than just a beat cop.

After three rings, Malloy answered the phone.

“Hello”

“Hi, Pete. It’s Jim. I just called to let you know I may be a little late. I have to go to the park and pretend I’m looking for a fix.”

“Oh, you’re undercover with Narcotics, are you?”

“Ya, I’m undercover.” That’s all Jim would admit, after all that was the truth so he wasn’t exactly lying, just hiding some of the details. That’s all.

“Okay, Jim, I’ll wait up. Be careful out there okay!”

“You know I will.”

“Oh, by the way, Jim. Jean called and she’s going to be dropping little Jimmy over tomorrow evening around six. Is that okay with you?”

“It’s fine with me, but is that okay with you. I mean you’ll be alone with him for a few hours, can you handle that?”

“Hey, you know I can. After all I babysat for him before so a few hours won’t kill me.”

‘Okay, Partner. Well I gotta go. They’re calling for me, see you soon,”

“Take care and, Jim, love you.”

“Back at you,” was all Reed could reply under the circumstances but Malloy got the message.

The first night at the park went without incident. Jim got propositioned a few times but he managed to avoid too much confrontation. He didn’t see any suspicious looking characters hanging around, so after four hours, Wilson called it quits and told Jim to report back tomorrow night to give it one last shot. Reed changed into his own clothes before heading home because if Malloy saw him in that get up, he’d catch on that more was going on than Reed was admitting. Malloy was waiting for him as promised and after a light meal of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, the two men cuddled on the couch. Then Malloy, noticing his Brat was having a hard time keeping his eyes opened, lead him to the bedroom and put him to bed. Reed cuddled up close to Malloy, and with his head on Malloy’s chest, he soon drifted off to sleep.

The next morning found the two men preparing the house for their weekend guest. They child-proofed every cupboard and made sure everything harmful was out of reach. Reed left Malloy to finish the work, while he slipped out to rent a day bed for his son to sleep in. When he returned they put it together in their bedroom and after a quick bite, Reed got ready for work.

“Going back into the park for another buy tonight, Junior?” Malloy asked.

“Yes, but if it’s like last night all I’ll be buying is a cold. Man, it gets chilly in that park after dark.”

“Aren’t you wearing a coat?” Malloy asked.

Not able to discuss his “outfit” with Malloy, Reed just stated he forgot his last night but he’d be sure to wear it tonight.

“Good! Now come here and give me a big kiss before you go there in that big bad world all alone.”

Reed laughed as he slipped into Malloy’s arms and pressed his lips to Malloy’s. Their tongues intermingled with deep passion and love and Reed found himself getting aroused at the closeness of Malloy’s body. “Ah, Pete, we better stop or I’ll be late for work for sure.”

Malloy laughed at his partner’s predicament as he pulled away.

“Okay, Junior, be careful out there.”

After one final kiss, Reed grabbed his car keys and headed off to work, leaving Malloy alone to wait for Jean to drop Jimmy off.

Things didn’t go so smoothly for Reed at the park on his second night. He had just picked out a nice spot to observe and be observed when he heard loud voices coming from a nearby path. His adrenaline level shot up a few notches as he prepared himself for the confrontation he knew was soon coming. He didn’t have to wait long. Before he knew it, six tough looking young men were approaching him and shouting out obscenities at him

“Hey, guys, look at the queer waiting for some action!” one of the men yelled.

“Hey, sweetheart, are you waiting for a lover to come and stick a cock in your mouth or are you one of those queers that will take in up the arse on the first date.”

Reed tried to act upset and nervous, which wasn’t all that far from the truth. He made his voice tremble as he replied with eyes down,
“Look, guys, I don’t want any trouble. Why don’t you just leave me alone? I’m not bothering you.”

Another one of the men grabbed Reed by the scarf and pulled him real close as he whispered, “That’s just it, sweetheart. You are bothering us, but I tell you what, if you’ll give me a nice long blowjob, I may consider telling my friends here to leave you alone. What do you say?”

“No, I don’t want to. You’re not my type.”

“Hey, boys, did you hear that the little fag is turning me down? Well I don’t take rejection that well, so if you’re not going to give me what I want willingly, my friends and I are just going to have to take it.” With that the man grabbed Reed between the legs and gave his penis a hard squeeze. Reed reached out and hit the man right on the jaw causing him to fall to the ground at the other men’s feet.

“Leave me alone!” Reed shouted. “Get out of here before I call a cop!”

“You, little fag, I’m going to make you pay for that little show of manhood. I didn’t think you queers had it in you, but now me and my friends are going to make you regret your little act of bravery.”

‘Where is my backup Wilson promised?’ Reed thought as he struggled against being pulled down the path and into the bushes. Before he could call for help, he felt a boot hitting him in the stomach causing him to loose his breath. He tried to fight them off, but all he could manage was a few punches. The six men were too many for him. Reed found himself being hit in the face and stomach, but the most painful was the kicks between his legs. Reed was crying out for help when he heard the sweet sound of police sirens in the air.

With one final blow that knocked Reed unconscious, the men tried to make their escape but Wilson and his men were on them before they made their way down the path. Wilson ran over to the young officer lying on the ground in the bushes. He knelt down to feel a strong pulse, but he also knew the kid was hurt badly. He called for an ambulance as he heard the kid coming to.

“Pete …Pete is that you?”

“No, kid, it’s Wilson. Just lie still, an ambulance is on its way.”

“I want Pete. Where’s Pete?”

“Take it easy, kid. I’ll call Malloy from the hospital. Just relax and try not to move.”

“Where were you? You promised me backup.”

“I know, kid, I’m sorry. We lost sight of you for a few minutes and when we finally discovered they had taken you down the path into the bushes, we came as quickly as we could.”

“Not quick enough,” Reed moaned as a wave of pain hit him. “ I want my partner, please. I want Pete.”

“Take it easy, kid. The ambulance is here and as I promised, I’ll call Malloy from the hospital.” As the ambulance attendants made their way to the young cop, Wilson noticed that Reed had once again passed out.

Meanwhile back at the apartment, while Reed was getting beat up in the park, an unsuspecting Malloy was greeting Jean Reed and Jimmy at the door. It was a very awkward moment for the two adults. After all this was the first time the two had seen each other since Jean made the move that forced Reed to realize it was Malloy he needed in his life and not her. Malloy moved aside and invited Jean and her son in. Jean accepted Malloy’s invitation for a coffee. She felt it was wise to stay for a little while to give her son the opportunity to become comfortable with his new surroundings.

“You like it with cream and two sugars if I recall, right, Jean?”

“That’s right, Pete, thank you.”

After a few minutes of idle chit-chat about the weather and such, Jean turned serious. “Pete, how are things going with you and Jim?”

“Jean, I can’t find the words that would be strong enough to show you how happy we are and how much in love we are. I can’t thank you enough for seeing the truth and making Jim see it as well. I don’t know if I would have ever made the first move if you two had stayed together. After all, I’m not a home wrecker.”

“I know that, Pete, and that’s why I made the decision I did. I could see how miserable Jim was becoming and I loved him enough to let him go. You know something, Pete, when I let him go I found my own happiness and I discovered my inner strength. I found the confidence to get into the job market and to go out on dates and everything.”

“That’s wonderful, Jean, so I guess it worked out for the both of us.”

“Yes, I guess it did. Well, I better be going or my sister will be wondering where I’ve gotten to. Have fun with the two Jims this weekend. I’ll be back Sunday around six PM, but if you need me for anything, you can get in touch with me at this number. It’s the Hilton Hotel in Vegas.” As Malloy reached out to the take the piece of paper out of Jean Reed’s hand, she grabbed his elbow and pulled him down for a quick kiss on the cheek. “Take care of my boys, Pete,” she stated as she started for the door.

“You can count on that, Jean. Have a good time and don’t worry about a thing. Jim and I have everything under control. We’re going to have a great time, aren’t we, Jimmy?” Malloy smiled as he turned towards the young man sitting on the sofa playing with his favorite teddy bear. The little boy looked up at him and Malloy saw the same smile he saw every morning on his lover’s face. Malloy noticed for the first time how much little Jimmy resembled his father.

After giving her son a last hug and kiss, Jean Reed left to meet her sister. She wasn’t out of the apartment for one minute when Jimmy’s smiles turned into screams.

“Mommy ….where Mommy…!”

“Mommy’s gone out for awhile, buddy. It’s just you and Uncle Pete.”

Instead of comforting the little tike, that only made him cry louder.

“NO ….MOMMY….MOMMY!”

Malloy tried to approach the boy to let him know he was safe, but every time he moved toward the sofa, the cries became louder and louder. Nothing Malloy did seemed to satisfy the boy. He tried offering him some candy, and when bribery didn’t work he turned towards the radio and turned in to a soft rock station and tried to make the boy laugh at his funny moves. Nothing! Jimmy just sat on the sofa and cried for his mother.

“Okay, Malloy. Don’t panic. Think, think, Mac’s right. I’ll call Mac, he’ll know what to do.”

He was so rattled at the loud sounds of crying coming from the living room, it took him a couple of minutes to find Mac’s telephone number and another few seconds to make his fingers work the dial. “Please be home! Please be home!” Malloy prayed as he counted the rings. “Three …four…Oh God, he’s not home!” What Malloy didn’t know, of course, is Mac was making his way to the hospital after being informed of the incident at the park. After eight rings, Malloy gave up and hung up the phone.

“Think, Malloy, you’ve been in tougher situations than this. You’ve dealt with some real bad people in your lifetime, you’ve even been shot at and held hostage, for pity sake. Don’t let yourself go down in defeat at the hands of this three year old little boy. Mrs. O’Brien, his landlady, of course, why didn’t he think of her? She’s had plenty of experience with kids, she’s a great grandmother for goodness sake. Malloy dialed her number and was extremely thankful when she answered on the second ring.

“Mrs. O’Brien, this is Pete Malloy.”

“Who?”

Malloy found he had to shout to make himself heard over the screams.

“Pete Malloy. I was wondering if you could come up to my apartment. I think, no I don’t think, I know I need your help.”

“My goodness, Pete, is that your roommate screaming like that? For the love of angels, what are you doing to him?”

“No, Mrs. O’Brien, it’s not Jim. It’s his son. Jim’s got custody this weekend, but he’s not home from work yet, and his ex-wife just left and the little fellow is feeling strange.”

“I thought you told me you babysat for him before. Doesn’t he know you, Pete?”

“Well to tell you the truth, Mrs. O’Brien, he was always in bed when I was there and he never woke up. The other times I was over at Jim’s house the little tike wasn’t afraid of me because his parents were there, so this is the first time he’s really been alone with me.”

Mrs. O’Brien couldn’t hide the amusement in her voice at the predicament her young tenant found himself in. “Don’t worry, Pete, I’ll be right there.”

“I can’t thank you enough, Mrs. O’Brien, and please hurry!”

“Keep your pants on, young man, I’ll be there in a jiffy.”

Mrs. O’Brien had never seen such a look of sweet relief on anyone’s face as the one Malloy had on as he opened the door and quickly ushered her into the apartment. Little Jimmy was still screaming his lungs out as Mrs. O’Brien approached the sofa.

“Well well now what do we have here, are you practicing to be a police siren for Uncle Pete?”

The young boy stopped screaming at the female presence but tears were still flowing.

“I’ll tell you what, sweetie, why don’t you and I put on some cartoons? I just love that wasskilly wabbit, don’t you?”

Jimmy began to laugh at Mrs. O’Brien’s attempt to imitate Elmer Fudd. She continued to do so as she turned on the TV set. After switching it to the proper channel, she slowly made her way to the sofa and gently sat down on the edge, not to close to the child but close enough to assert her presence. Jimmy instantly stopped crying and inched his way to the woman and began pointing towards the TV set.

“Bunny funny!” he shouted as Bugs was trying to get away from the hunter. Mrs. O’Brien sat all the way down and pulled the young man towards her. Malloy just sat and starred at them.

“Why isn’t he scared of you? He’s never met you before and he’s acting like he’s known you all his life, but with me all he’s doing is screaming.” The landlady couldn’t help but detect a note of hurt in Malloy’s voice.

“Pete, he sensed your nervousness and picked up on that. Now come over here and show him the calm collective man I know.”

Malloy moved over to the sofa and picked up his godson and placed him on his lap and he also began to laugh at the antics of the cartoon characters. Jimmy, now feeling secure laid back until his head rested on Malloy’s chest. The tears and fears were soon forgotten. Mrs. O’Brien was getting ready to leave when an urgent knock came on the door.

“Will you get that please, Mrs. O’Brien?” Malloy asked her since she was closest to the door and he still had Jimmy on his lap. She opened to the door to find Malloy’s Sgt. with hat in hand, standing there with a very serious and urgent look on his face.

“Oh, hello. Mrs. O’Brien, isn’t it? Is Pete around?”

“I’m in here, Mac. Coming to check up on me and Jimmy?”

Mac excused himself as he pushed past the landlady. He took a deep breath. He knew breaking the news to Malloy what happened to Reed wasn’t going to be easy.

“Pete, do you think Mrs. O’Brien could baby sit for you?”

“Why for God’s sake?”

“It’s Jim. He was attacked in the park and he’s on his way to Central hospital. Ben Wilson called me and I decided to swing by here and pick you up. Jim’s been calling for you. He wants you near him.”

“Oh my God! Mrs. O’Brien…?” Malloy didn’t have to finish the request. She grabbed his coat and after helping him on with it, she pushed Mac and him out the door and told them to hurry to the hospital. She told Malloy he didn’t have to worry about getting home, she’d stay with the young boy as long as she had too. Malloy thanked her with a quick kiss on the cheek and, after giving Jimmy a quick kiss also, he followed Mac out to the car.

On the way to the hospital it hit Malloy that Wilson wasn’t in narcotics. He was in charge of the Vice squad.

“Mac when did Wilson transfer to narcotics?” he asked.

With a confused look on his face Mac turned to Malloy. “Narcotics, why would you think Wilson transferred to narcotics. He’s still in Vice. Didn’t Jim tell you he was working under cover with Wilson to try and stop the gay bashing going on in the park?”

By the look on Malloy’s face, it was quite obvious, Reed had deceived his partner and in turn himself, because when he approached Reed to ask him if he had informed Malloy about going under cover, Reed stated he did. What the young officer neglected to mention to Mac was that he didn’t tell Malloy what division he was going undercover for.

“How bad is he, Mac?”

“I’m not sure, Pete. All Wilson would tell me is Reed took quite a beating in the park but he didn’t think the injuries were life threatening.”

With a lump in his throat, Malloy turned to Mac. “Damn it, Mac. I can’t loose another partner. I just can’t! I love this kid so much it hurts. But it’s a joyful hurt, know what I mean?”

Mac just nodded as he let his friend talk out his emotions and fear for his partner and lover.

“He’s so sweet and loving and a joy to be around and then on the other hand he is such a…such a…” Malloy began to choke up.

Mac finished the sentence, “Such a Brat!”

Malloy let out a slow laugh. “Ya, you could say that in more ways than one. He’s still so independent and stubborn. I know he wanted that assignment. He loves playing detective and he also knew if he told me what it really entailed, I would have forbid him to take it. So what does he do? He tells me half-truths and keeps his fingers crossed that everything will work out and I’ll never know the difference. What he has to learn is, I’ll eventually find out the truth, then I’ll have to turn around and discipline him. It’s like he’s baiting me to take action.”

“No, Pete. Jim would never do that. It’s just the way he is. He never had anyone looking after him, not really. I mean his parents tried to keep him from harm, and at the academy he had instructors, who did their best to train him and prepare him for what he was going to face, but he never had to answer to anyone for his actions. He never had the privilege of allowing himself to give up control and let someone else take over. This is all new to him and you have to admit, he’s getting better. He just still has a way to go. “

“That’s an understatement if I ever heard one, Mac.”

“Maybe so, but after he’s healed and feeling better I’m sure you’re going to show him the errors of his ways. Afterwards he will be able to once again make one more step in giving over control. Jim is the type of personality that his training in the discipline area is going to take time and patience and maybe, Pete, he will have to be disciplines a lot more than your last partner, but in the end it will all be worth it, you’ll see.”

“I sure hope so,” Malloy said forlornly as he hesitated and played over in his mind, how he would word what he was thinking. He came to the conclusion being direct was the best course.

“Mac, he also lied and deceived you. If you think you need to discipline him as well, you have my permission to do so, under one condition.”

“And what condition would that be?”

“You wouldn’t use the paddle on him. He’s not ready for that yet.”

“That makes sense. I’ll think about it, Malloy, and let you know what I’ve decided.”

Malloy just nodded as his mind drifted to what he would find when he got to the hospital. ‘God let him be alright!’ he prayed as Mac’s car turned into the hospital parking lot and stopped at the main entrance.

“You go in, Pete, and after I park, I’ll join you. Wilson said he would be in the ER.”

“Thanks, Mac.” Malloy stated as he jumped out of the front seat and ran through the sliding doors and made his way to the emergency area. Having been there on many occasions, taking both victims and suspects there for various states of repair, Malloy didn’t need to ask the front-end nurse for directions. The nurse recognizing Malloy because of his frequent visits, made no effort to stop him from getting past her without filling out those tedious forms and signing in for security purposes.

As Malloy made his way around the corner, he stopped short as he recognized Ben Wilson sitting in one of the waiting room chairs with his head in his hands. Wilson made those overstuffed chairs look like a kid’s size, as his huge frame engulfed the furniture that was obviously not made for a man of Wilson’s stature. The Vice-Detective stood as he observed Malloy coming around the corner.

“Pete, he’s going to be fine, just a lot of bruising and a slight concussion. Nothing is broken and there are no internal injuries.”

Malloy’s heart was beating in his chest and his legs were a little shaky but at the sound of Wilson’s news he started to feel a little better.

“Jesus, Wilson, what in the hell went wrong out there? You know he’s inexperienced in undercover work. You should have kept a better eye on him.”

“Look, Malloy, I feel guilty enough without you yelling at me. Don’t you think I haven’t been racking myself over the coals for my stupidity? But that’s not going to do any good now. I’m sure the review board will have field day with this one. Leave it in their hands and go in and see your partner. He’s been asking for you ever since it happened.”

Malloy knew the big cop was right so, after taking a couple of deep breaths to regain control, Malloy left Wilson waiting in the hall for Mac and he made his way down the hall to the private room they had put Reed in after he had returned from x-ray.

He slowly opened the door so as not to disturb his partner, in case he was asleep. A tiny nightlight sitting on the bureau next to the bed was on casting a yellow glow over his young partner. Tears formed in Malloy’s eyes as he took in the sight. Reed looked like a little boy lying in that big bed. He had a huge bandage on his forehead and his hair was caked with sweat and blood. Because of the sheet covering him, Malloy couldn’t see the rest of the injuries, so he quietly and slowly made his way to the side of the bed and as gently as he could he lifted up the sheet. Tears escaped his eyes as he took in the damage. Because Reed was naked under the sheet all his injuries were in plain sight. A huge black and blue bruise covered his abdomen where he had been kicked and his groin area was covered with deep bruises.

‘God that looks painful’ Malloy thought to himself as he gently replaced the sheet, then bent down to place a tender kiss on his Brat’s forehead. This action caused Reed to open his eyes. At the sight of Malloy standing over him and despite the pain it caused, Reed sat up in bed and flew into Malloy’s arms and began to cry like a baby.

“Oh, Pete, it hurts so bad…they hurt me so bad! I…I…I’m so sorry . I thought you’d be so mad at me for lying to you that you wouldn’t come and see me.”

He clung to Malloy with all the strength he could muster. Malloy, for his part, rocked him back and forth and rubbed his back in a sign of love and comfort. Knowing the way Reed was sitting up was causing him great discomfort, Malloy pulled Reeds arms away from him and gently laid him back down into the bed. But he kept physical contact with him by holding on to his hand.

“Oh, baby, I would never be mad enough at you not to come and be by your side when you need me. I love you so much and all I want to do is take your pain away.”

Reed squeezed Malloy’s hand as the tears continued to flow.

“I tried to stop them, Pete, but they were too strong and they outnumbered me.”

“I know that, baby, but let’s not talk about that right now. Let’s concentrate on healing right now.” Again noticing the blood in Reed’s hair, Malloy asked his young Brat, “Didn’t they clean you up in the ER?”

“I wouldn’t let them. I only wanted you to touch me, no one else. The doctor and nurses only did what was necessary to make sure I wasn’t seriously injured. As to anything else, I made it quite clear only my partner would be allowed to clean me off and do what ever else that was needed.”

“There’s that stubborn streak again,” Malloy laughed as he made his way into the bathroom. He found a clean washcloth and mild soap. After wetting the cloth with warm water, Malloy rubbed the soap over the surface just enough to cover it with cleanser but not make it too soapy, incase some would slip into Reed’s eyes. He made his way back to Jim’s bedside and with the most tender of touches, he washed the blood and sweat away along with the tears that streaked Reed’s face. All the while he spoke loving and warm words of comfort.

“There you go, baby, does that feel better?”

“Yes. Thanks, Pete.” and with those words, because Malloy was close, Reed stopped fighting the pain medication and soon drifted into a deep sleep.

Malloy had just finished disposing of the dirty washcloth, when the hospital room door opened to admit Sgt. MacDonald and a small black man wearing a white coat. Malloy assumed this was the admitting doctor who took care of Reed. He was correct.

‘Officer Pete Malloy, I would like you to meet Dr. Harris Thompson,” Mac introduced them and the two men shook hands.

“I understand, Officer Malloy, that this young man is living with you since his separation, and that you are also his patrol partner.”

“Yes, Doctor, that’s true.”

“Also by the way this young man carried on in the ER, it has come to my understanding that he trusts and depends on you for support, friendship and well being.”

“That’s what happens, Doctor, when you ride with someone for along time. You become very close and you find yourself depending on each other for everything, from watching each other’s back in both the work environment and off the job as well. We’re more than partners, we’re best friends.” Of course, that’s all Malloy could admit to.

“Well, Officer Malloy, I hope you are willing to take on the responsibility of tending to your partner’s injuries and mending him back to health.”

“Without hesitation, Doc. Just tell me what I have to do.”

“We will have to keep him here overnight for observation because he suffered a slight concussion, but that is not my main concern. My main concern is the injuries to his groin area. Are you uncomfortable or embarrassed to administer physical therapy to Officer Reed in this area.”

Malloy looked over the doctor’s shoulder at Mac and both men were doing their best not to laugh. Malloy put on his best professional voice, the one reserved for all those crying females he’s stopped for speeding or running a stop sign and who did their best to get out of the ticket.

“No, Doc, that wouldn’t bother me at all.”

“You have to understand, Officer Malloy, that the pain medication, which also contains a powerful antibiotic, will be in cream form and you will have to administer if by gently rubbing it into the wounded areas. The contact may stimulate Officer Reed, if you know what I mean.”

“Doc, are you trying to tell me that my rubbing Jim’s penis is going to cause him to become aroused?”

Doctor Thompson was slightly taken aback by Malloy’s bluntness, but quickly recovered. “Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.”

“Fine! I can handle that.”

“One more thing, Officer, if he does become aroused and finds himself in need of ejaculating I want to warn you, that will cause him great discomfort. Both his penis and scrotum were badly bruised and if he were a married man I would be advising him to have no sexual activity for at least two weeks, until he is fully healed.”

“I understand. What should I do to alleviate his pain?”

“If he becomes aroused, to avoid him getting to a point of no return I advise you to nip it in the bud and take a very cold compress and place it over his genitals, which will of course cause him to lose his erection. If he is the type of individual who becomes stimulated very quickly and you find he is at the point of no return, stop the massage and begin to gently masturbate him. Help him along and be prepared for the pain to follow. How you deal with that will be up to you. Do you think you can handle that, Officer? If you can’t, I have a professional on staff who can go to your apartment to do what has to be done.”

“After the way Jim acted in the ER, do you honestly think he would let anyone else but me touch him?”

“No, I think not, but if you are not up to the challenge, he will have no choice to allow my staff member to do the job. It has to be done.”

“I’m well up to the challenge, Doctor Thompson. How often will I have to apply the ointment?”

“Twice a day, morning and night. In between, he is to take hot baths in Epson salts for time periods of fifteen minutes. He should take a least four baths a day for the first three days then I wish to examine him again and, if all goes well, he can cut the baths down to two a day, preferable before the ointment is applied. He is also to be given liquid antibiotics. If he refuses to take the medication orally, you will have no choice but to give it to him in suppository form, is that understood?”

“Oh, you’ve made yourself quite clear, Doctor.”

‘This should be fun,’ Malloy thought to himself. He already knew Reed would refuse to take the oral medication because Reed had a hard time keeping any liquid medication down and having him vomit with his sore stomach and all would not be wise. If the suppository method was his only option, he may have to ask Mac for assistance. He would also have to ask Mac for two weeks off. There was no way he could take care of Jim properly and still do his twelve-hour shifts.

“Fine! Before you leave, come see me in the ER and I will give you the medication that you will need instead of making you go to a drug store.” Without another word, Dr. Thompson turned on his heels and left the hospital room, leaving Mac and Malloy alone to deal with their injured friend.

“Oh, it looks like you’re going to have oodles of fun taking care of your Brat,” Mac teased his friend.

“Ya, doesn’t it though. And speaking of taking care, I may need your help if I have to administer the suppositories.”

“I figured as much. Anytime, Pete, you know that, and before you have to ask, I’ll slate you off on medical leave for as long as is necessary.”

“Thanks, Mac, you are a true friend.”

“As are you, and by the way that matter we discussed on the way here, you know the one about me also dealing with Reed’s actions?”

“Yes, have you made a decision?”

“I certainly have. I find it is absolutely necessary for me to administer some discipline in this matter. He has to learn he cannot lie to or disrespect me, but I like you, will wait until he is fully healed.”

“Agreed! Now if you don’t mind staying with him in case he wakes up, I’m going to call Mrs. O’Brien and ask her is she would be willing to keep little Jimmy overnight, because I’m not leaving the hospital.”

“Pete, I think you should reconsider that. It’s not fair to either Mrs. O’Brien or little Jimmy. He’s your responsibility and it’s about time you get a handle on that. If you’re worried about Jim being alone, don’t be. My wife is still out of town, so I’ll stay with Jim. Go home to your godson. He needs you know almost as much as he’s father does.”

After thinking it over for a moment or two, Malloy realized Mac was right and told him as much. So after checking on Reed one last time and giving him another gentle kiss, he left his Brat in Mac’s capable hands. He did call Mrs. O’Brien however to get her up to speed and to tell her he’d be home within the hour. Then, before he went to find Dr. Thompson, he once again slipped into Jim’s room to get Mac’s car keys. He realized after he hung up from his landlady, he had come in Mac’s car and since Mac was going to stay overnight, he’d take his car, then Mac could drive him and Jim home in the morning after Jim got discharged. Malloy found Dr. Thompson waiting for him in the ER pharmacy. Thompson went over the instructions again with Malloy on how to administer the cream and how much he should use. He also handed him a bottle of oral medication and a box, which held a number of suppositories, just in case they were needed. As Malloy made his way to the parking lot, he looked up at the wall clock. It was two AM. Too late to call Jean, but he would do that before he left for the hospital in the morning.

As Malloy stepped into the living room he noticed Mrs. O’Brien had fallen asleep on the sofa. He walked silently across the floor then gently shook his landlady awake, keeping his voice down as to not disturb his sleeping godson.

“Mrs O’Brien, wake up. I’m home.”

“Oh, Pete, I must have dozed off. I’m sorry. What time is it?”

“It’s around 2:30 AM. Why don’t you slip on home now that I can take over from here?

“How’s your partner, Pete?” the concerned elderly lady asked as she folded the blanket that had covered her and placed in on top of the sofa.

“He’s pretty bruised up and he will sore for a couple of weeks, but it could have been worse. I’ll be bringing him home tomorrow.”

“You must be very tired. Are you sure you don’t want me to stay?”

“No, thank you anyway. I appreciate the offer, but I’ll be fine and after all Jimmy is sound asleep, so things should be okay.”

“Well what ever you say Pete, but remember,” Mrs. O’Brien stated as Pete led her towards the door, “I’m only a phone call away if you need me”

“Thank you, Mrs. O’Brien, and if I could ask you for one more favor? Could you watch Jimmy when I go back to the hospital to pick up his father?”

“Of course, I will. He’s such a little angel. Just give me a call when you’re ready to leave and I’ll come right up.”

With a final thank you and a kiss on her cheek, Pete opened the door and watched as his landlady made her way down the hall to her apartment. He had just closed the door and began to undress to get ready for bed, when the sound of crying child vibrated through the door of the bedroom.

“Oh shit, that’s all I need. The little angel is awake,” Malloy said to an empty room.

He slowly opened the bedroom door and peeked in to find his godson sitting up in bed with tears streaking down his face.

“Hey, Jimmy, it’s Uncle Pete. What’s the matter?”

“Bed wet…Pet…Jimmy had an oh-oh.”

Malloy smiled to himself at being called ‘Pet’. The little tike couldn’t pronounce his name so what came out sounded like pet. Oh well, at least he had stopped crying.

“Hey, that’s okay. Let’s say we get you cleaned up and into clean pajamas, then you can crawl in with Uncle Pete and sleep in the big bed. How does that sound?”

“Yeah, Jimmy sleep in big bed…yeah!”

Malloy was so pleased that the little fellow had stopped being strange. That’s all he would have needed, Jimmy still afraid of being alone with him He picked up the youngster and carried him off to the bedroom. When there, he stripped off the wet pajamas and underwear and threw them in the hamper. He quickly washed him off with a warm wet cloth, then reached in to the bag Jean had left and pulled out some training pants and a clean pair of pajamas.

Seeing the training pants, Jimmy began to shout, “No…No. Jimmy big boy, no need baby things!”

Malloy trying to reason with the boy, told him if he’d put them on he would stay dry. “Wearing them make’s you a big boy, Jimmy.”

Wiggling out of Malloy’s arms, a naked three year old took off in a dead run out of the bathroom and made his way into the living room, with a tired police officer close on his heals. He kept running around the sofa and laughing, “Pet can’t catch Jimmy, ha ha! Pet can’t catch Jimmy!” Malloy tried everything he could to catch the boy, he chased him around and around, he tried to jump over the sofa in order to catch him as the now wide awake and energetic “little Angel” made his way around the back of the sofa. But Jimmy was to fast for his tired Godfather. Out of breath and an exhausted Malloy finally gave up and fell to the floor. Jimmy thought that was hilarious and, with a playful giggle, took a beeline run and threw himself on Malloy. “Ha, ha, Pet, me won, me won!”

Malloy grabbed Jimmy around the waist and whispered “Gotcha!” This made Jimmy laugh even harder, then he took Malloy’s face in his hands, bent down , placed his lips on Malloy’s left cheek and blew making a farting sound.

“Me luv you, Pet!”

Malloy looked up into the deep blue eyes of his Godson and a lump formed in his throat. He was looking into the eyes of a miniature Reed. That teasing, playful look Reed gets in his eyes when he’s sitting on Malloy’s lap was so evident in his son, it made Malloy fill up with joy, pride and love.

“Oh, Jimmy, I love you too. Now, what do you say about putting on your pajamas?”

“No baby things.”

Giving in, Malloy stood up, swooping the young man into his arms at the same time. “No, you don’t have to put on the baby things, but you do have to get to bed.”

“Okay, Pet, we go night-night.”

Fighting to keep his eyes open, Malloy managed to get Jimmy dressed and into bed. He lay down next to him and within seconds he found the youngster cuddling up to him.

“Just like your daddy,” Malloy chuckled. After setting the alarm for nine AM, he closed his eyes and soon both big boy and little boy were fast asleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Malloy awoke to loud sounds coming from the living room. He forced his eyes open and turned to look at the clock. Seven AM.
“Damn, I’ve only been asleep three hours. What is that noise?” It took Malloy a few seconds to discover that Jimmy wasn’t asleep beside him. ‘Oh great, that must be the noise. I better get up and turn that TV down before the neighbors start calling,’ Malloy thought to himself. When he walked into the living room he wished he had stayed in bed. Caos awaited him. Clothes were scattered all around the living room floor as well as a path of corn flakes that could be seen running from the sofa into the kitchen. Malloy bravely went into the kitchen only to wish he hadn’t. The fridge was wide open and a broken bottle of milk was leaking it’s way under it. A chair was pulled up to the cupboard where drawers and doors were splayed open. Boxes of cereal were tipped and running down the cupboard counter and unto the floor, leaving a mountain of fruit loops and corn flakes in its wake. Trying to control his temper, Malloy once again made his way into the living room.
Jimmy was sitting in front of the TV with a mug full of corn flakes and milk. Trying to imitate an adult, Jimmy was blowing on the mug as if to cool it. If Malloy hadn’t been so mad the scene would be comical.
“James Reed, Jr.! What is going on here?”
“Hi, Pet, me was hungry and loud noises were coming out of your mouth and your eyes closed, so like big boy, I eat myself.”
“Did you also try to dress yourself?” Malloy asked trying to keep his voice at an even keel not to frighten the boy as helooked at all the various items of clothing spread all across his living room floor.
Placing the mug to his lips and sipping a mug full of corn flakes, Jimmy nodded proudly. Malloy finally noticed what Jimmy had on. His pants were on but they were backwards and his shirt, which was not only put on backwards, was also inside out. He had one white sock and one blue sock and his sneakers were on the wrong feet, but Jimmy didn’t seem to notice or care. He was just so happy that he had gotten dressed by himself.
“Jimmy, what did Uncle Pete tell you about the danger in climbing and getting into things without a big person around?”
“It bad.”
“That’s right, it’s bad. Look at the mess you made, young man, and you could have fallen off the chair and got hurt.”
“Me no fall!”
“You were lucky!” Malloy’s voice began to rise a little at the thought of what might have happened if Jimmy and fallen.
“Oh, oh, mad voice!” Jimmy looked up at Malloy with the same pouty face his father puts on before he’s about to get disciplined.
“Yes, Jimmy, mad voice. Uncle Pete is mad at you, you were a bad boy!”
“Pet spank Jimmy?”
There was no look of fear in Jimmy’s eyes just the look of understanding. He must be used to being disciplined. ‘Jean must make him tow the line,’ Malloy thought.
“No, Uncle Pete is not going to spank you this time, but you are going to help clean up the mess.”
“Me good with broom, Pet, watch!”
Malloy knew his Godson deserved a spanking for putting himself in harm’s way and making such a mess, but right now he didn’t have the heart to do it, and besides before he begins disciplining Jimmy he wants to discuss it with Reed. He walked over to the broom closet and pulled out a broom and dustpan. After he wiped the milk off the floor, he gave Jimmy the dust pan and told him to hold it down on the floor, where Malloy with small strokes pushed all the cereal into the pan. He didn’t put too much in at a time so it would be easy for Jimmy to walk over to the garbage can and dump it in without spilling any. It took a little more time but to see the feeling of accomplishment on Jimmy’s face was worth it. After they were done in the kitchen, they moved to the living room where Jimmy was made to pick up all his clothes and place them in the duffle bag his mother had so lovingly packed for him. When all the work was done and Malloy had his clean apartment back, he set out to make them both a proper breakfast. Jimmy insisted at having bacon and eggs just like Malloy, so that’s what he got. Jimmy managed to eat most of it with only a small amount of mess. After cleaning him up and fixing his clothing, he led Jimmy back to the sofa and turned the TV back on. When he was sure Jimmy was settled down watching one of his favorite programs, Malloy went back into the kitchen and dialed the number Jean had given him. After reaching the front desk, he was put through to Jean’s room. Jean answered on the third ring with a sleepy “hello”.
“Jean, this is Pete.”
Knowing Malloy would only call if there was something wrong, Jean quickly sat up in bed suddenly wide awake.
“Oh my God, Pete! What’s wrong? Did something happen to Jimmy? Is he sick or hurt?”
“No, Jean. It’s not Jimmy….it’s Jim.”
“Oh God, he’s been shot. He’s hurt bad. Oh, Pete, is he…is he?”
“Jean, calm down! No, he didn’t get shot and you know I wouldn’t break that news over the phone, but he is hurt. He was working undercover and he got beaten up pretty bad. The injuries are not life threatening or anything but he will be very sore for a couple of weeks. I hate to cut off your weekend, but do you think you could possibly come home and pick up Jimmy?”
“Of course, Pete. We’ll leave right after breakfast and I should be there around dinner time.”
“Thank you so much. I’ll try and make it up to you, I promise. Mrs. O’Brien watched him last night while I was at the hospital and she offered to keep him again this morning while I go pick Jim up.”
“You mean you left him alone all night in that awful hospital room all by himself?”
“You know I wouldn’t do that, Jean. Mac stayed with him. I wanted to but he reminded me that I had a responsibility towards Jimmy and my place was here with him.”
“Oh, Pete, I’m sorry. I guess I’m still a little protective of Jim as old habits die hard. I know you would never do anything to upset him.”
“Forget it…I know where you’re coming from. I better let you go and get ready to leave. See you tonight!” After a few more pleasantries, the two of them hung up. Pete then dialed the hospital and asked to talk to Mac. Mac sounded very tired when he came to the phone.
“Hi, Pete.”
“Hey, Mac, how’s he doing?”
“He’s very sore and in a lot of pain and he had a few nightmares during the night. He’d wake up crying and asking for you. He seemed satisfied however to find me there and let me hold him and rock him back to sleep. He sure loves to cuddle, that Brat of yours.”
“Ya, he sure does. So does his son. Listen, I’m going to call Mrs. O’Brien to come up and after I take a quick shower I’ll leave for the hospital.”
“Terrific! So I’ll see you in a little bit. I better get back to Jim.”
“Tell him I love him and that I’m on my way.”
“Will do!” and with those parting words Mac hung up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leaving Jimmy in Mrs. O’Brien’s capable hands, Malloy left for the hospital. He had taken the time before he left to go through Jim’s closet and grab a pair of loose fitting jogging shorts and a baggy LAPD T-Shirt. The traffic that time of morning was crazy and caused Malloy’s impatience to grow by the minute. He decided to turn down Sunset and take the express route to the hospital. He wanted to get to Jim as quickly as he could. Having Jim on mind, Malloy really wasn’t paying attention to how fast he was going until he heard a siren behind him.
“Shit! That’s all I need, a ticket!” Like he’d seen many drivers do when he gave them the red light, he pulled over to the curb, turned off his ignition and took out his driver’s license and Mac’s registration. He recognized Officer Bill Jenkins making his way to the car. Jenkins partner stayed by the squad car. Jenkins started to laugh when he approached the car and realized whom he had stopped.
“Hey, Pete, where’s the fire?”
“Hi, Bill. I’m sorry. I was on my way to the hospital to pick up my partner and I guess my mind was on other things instead of my driving.”
“Ya, I heard Reed was gay bashed in the park and I hear he really looked the part.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, he sure played a queer to the hilt. I think those guys get what they deserve. I mean if I ever came across a homo, I think I’d lay down the law, if you know what I mean.” Jenkins motioned to his night stick as he spoke.
Malloy was getting a little sick to his stomach at the thought of what Jenkins would do with that nightstick. Then a thought struck him, how did he know how Jim was dressed. A chill ran down his spine as realization set in. ‘Oh God, Jenkins was one of the men in the park. He had to be!’
Malloy tried to keep his cool as he handed Jenkins a copy of his license.
“Hey, Pete,” Jenkins continued as he took the offered paper. “Isn’t this Sgt. MacDonald’s car? What are you doing with it?”
Malloy was starting to get annoyed with this situation and it was starting to show.
“If it’s any of your business, Mac picked me up and took me to the hospital. When I had to go home, I had no car, so Mac lent me his.”
“Mac stay at the hospital?”
“What the hell do you care if he did or not, Jenkins? Come on, just give me the ticket so I can pick up Reed at the hospital.”
“Okay…Okay, Malloy, you don’t have to get so touchy. Under the circumstances, I’ll cut you some slack and let you go with a warning, but be more aware of what you doing behind that wheel, okay?”
“Thanks,” was all Malloy said as he took back his license. He started the engine and tried to pull away but Jenkins was still by the door.
“Hey, Pete, hope your partner recovers quickly and tell him pink is not his color.”
Malloy tried to manage a smile as he was thinking, ‘You son of a bitch, your ass is mine!’
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“What took you so long?” MacDonald asked Malloy as he entered Reed’s hospital room.
Not seeing Reed in bed he didn’t answer Mac, but inquired where his partner was.
“They’ve taking him down to X-ray for one more look at his head before they release him. Just a precaution, Dr. Thompson told me. Now, are you going to tell me what took you so long?”
Malloy told his Sgt. and his friend about being stopped for speeding and Jenkins comments about Jim was wearing. Mac agreed with Malloy that it sounded very suspicious. “After all” Mac informed Malloy, “The only one’s who knew what Reed was dressed like and where he would be located in the park was myself and Wilson and his team. If Jenkins knew what Reed was wearing he had to be one of the bashers.”
“Ya, but don’t you think he would of recognized Reed?”
“Maybe, maybe not, Pete. Jim was pretty hard to recognize and maybe by the time he did realize who Reed was, he was past the point of no return.”
“Do you think Jim’s in danger if Jenkins was in the park and he thinks Jim would recognize him as a police officer?”
“Good point! Listen, I’ll talk to Wilson and have him spread the word that Jim doesn’t remember a thing about that night because it was so dark and everything happened so quickly, he didn’t get a look at any of his attackers’ faces. That way Jenkins will relax and he may let something slip or get caught off guard. Either way, Reed will be safe.”
“Reed will be safe from what?” Both men turned in unison at the sound of Reed’s voice coming from the open door of the room.
“I was telling Mac here, you will be safe from disciplinary action until you are feeling better. By using those police terms, he gave the orderly who had wheeled Reed back to his room, the impression that Reed would have to go in front of a review board. Of course, what Malloy was really referring to, was the sound spanking Reed was going to get when he was fully healed. Reed knew exactly what Malloy meant and despite the pain of his injuries, he hoped he healed slowly.
When the orderly had left, Reed slipped into Malloy’s arms and snuggled up as close as he could. “I’m so happy you’re here, partner. I really needed you last night.”
“I know, Junior, but Mac reminded me of my responsibilities to my Godson, and besides, I knew I was leaving you in capable hands.”
“You sure did! Mac is a good hugger. I felt almost as safe and secure in his arms as I do in yours. I’m really lucky to have two ‘Tops’ taking care of me.”
Malloy gave Reed a long lingering kiss. Then he pulled away and sat him down on the bed.
“I brought you a change of clothes, Junior. Something nice and loose so you won’t feel confined.”
“Thanks, Pete,” Reed commented as he looked into the bag.
“Do you need some help putting them on?”
“That would be nice, thanks!” Reed whispered with eyes downcast.
As gently as he could, Malloy helped Reed off with the hospital gown. Then with tender and slow hands, Malloy began to dress his Brat. To avoid Reed having to raise his hands over his head to place his hands in the shirt sleeve which would cause the bruise on his stomach to act up, Malloy placed one of Reed’s arms in the sleeve then the other. He then pushed the shirt towards Reed’s chest and lifted the shirt collar up to place it over Reed’s head. He then placed Reed’s legs in the shorts, stood him up and with as much caution as he could slipped the shorts up over Reeds bruised genital area. When material touched skin, Reed gave a low moan and placed his head once again on Malloy’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Junior. I was as careful as I could be. When you get home you can remove the clothing and stay nude under the bed sheets.”
“Why do I need the bed sheets when it’s just the two of us?”
“You’ve forgotten, it’s the three of us. Jimmy will still be at home when we get there. Jean is only picking him up after dinner, probably around seven PM or so.”
“You called Jean? Why?”
“Well, if you must know, young man, she has a right to know what happened and, secondly, I wanted her to come home early to pick up Jimmy so I could devote all my time to you.”
Hearing the authority in Malloy’s voice, Reed didn’t pursue the subject any further, instead he just laid back on the bed and waited for his release papers to arrive.
Malloy noticed that Reed was trying to hide how much pain he was in. It was obvious the pain medication was wearing off. As soon as they got home, if Mrs. O’Brien would take Jimmy to the park, he would give Jim a warm bath then administer the medication. Speaking of medication, Malloy thought this would be the perfect opportunity to bring up the liquid medication versus the suppositories.
“Jim, Dr. Thompson gave you two forms of antibiotic medication, liquid and suppositories. Now, I know you don’t like liquid but under the circumstances would you prefer it to the suppositories?”
“Pete, you don’t have to be concerned about using the suppositories, I’m used to them. My mother got sick and tired of cleaning up after me being sick every time she gave me liquid medicine so she switched to suppositories. I’ve been getting medication that way since I ws seven years old. Even last year when I had that really bad flu bug, Jean gave me nausea medication that way. If I didn’t mind Jean administering them to me, I sure as hell won’t mind you doing it.”
Malloy breathed a sign of relief. He wasn’t looking forward to a struggle every time that duty had to be done or to have to bother Mac to lend a helping hand. Malloy also noticed the relieved look on Mac’s face as well.
Dr. Thompson finally arrived with the release forms and, after a few papers were filled out, the three men were on their way. Malloy pushed Reed in the wheel chair up to the door, while Mac ran ahead to get the car. He pulled up as close to the curb as he could. Malloy helped Reed into the back seat so he could lie down. Malloy also sat in the back seat and placed Reed’s head in his lap. Mac drove twenty miles and hour all the way home to avoid any bangs or bumps that would cause Reed pain. A few times it couldn’t be avoided because of poor road conditions. At those times when Reed let out small cries of pain, Malloy took his hand and reassured his Brat they were almost home. He was very proud of Reed. He knew he was in a great deal of discomfort but he was doing his best to be brave and fight the pain. Finally they were home. After Mac helped Malloy get Reed up their apartment, he left for home.
Seeing his father, Jimmy became very excited. He wanted to jump up on his father, but Malloy played interference and grabbed Jimmy before too much damage could be done.
“You’re daddy has had an accident at work, Jimmy,” Malloy explained to the little boy. “He’s very sore, so we have to be very careful. I’ll hold you while you give him a big hug and kiss, okay?”
Being a very perceptive and bright little boy, Jimmy understood what Malloy was trying to tell him. He leaned into his father and gave him a couple of wet sloppy kisses on his cheek.
“Daddy got a boo-boo?”
“Yes, Jimmy,” Reed answered his son “Daddy’s got a bad boo-boo. Look, why don’t you go to the park with Mrs. O’Brien so Daddy can rest for a little bit, and when you get back, I’ll read you your favorite story, deal?”
“Yeah…come on Mrs. Let’s go play on the swings!”
“Are you up to that, Mrs. O’Brien?” Malloy asked.
“Oh, come on, Pete, you know I’m a real swinger. Let’s go, my little man!”
Reed and Malloy both laughed at Mrs. O’Brien’s play on words. They were still laughing as Jimmy slammed the door behind him in a rush to get to the park. As soon as they were alone however, Reed gave in to the pain and began to cry in earnest. Malloy was at his side in less that a heartbeat, and picked up his partner. He cradled him in his arms all the way into the bedroom. When they reached the bed, Malloy still with Reed in his arms laid down taking Reed down with him. Reed grabbed on to his partner and just screamed out. He had been keeping it in for so long, Malloy just let him cry it out. He rubbed his back and stroked his hair. All the while speaking words of love and comfort.
After twenty minutes, the loud cries turned to soft tears.
“Jim, let me up so I can run you a bath then give you your medication, okay/”
Although Reed was reluctant to let Malloy go, he knew a bath and medication was what he needed so he pushed away from his partner and rolled unto his back. When the bath water was the right temperature and the Epson salts added, Malloy undressed Reed with the same caution as he dressed him, then carried him into the bathroom to lower him into the tub. While Reed was soaking, Malloy prepared a cold compress just in case things got a little out of hand. He also placed the pain cream on the table as well as the antibiotic suppository. When the fifteen minutes were up, he grabbed a soft fluffy towel. He lifted Reed out of the tub, placed the towel around him, and carried him into the bedroom. Instead of placing Reed on the bed Malloy placed him by the bed and told his partner to kneel down. Malloy knew lying in the fetal position was the best way to administer a suppository, but Reed was in too much pain to get in that position, so kneeling on the bed would be next logical solution. When Reed was in position, Malloy gently spread his butt cheeks and placed the suppository in. It went smoother that Malloy had anticipated. When that job was done, he helped Reed to his feet. After placing pillows on the backboard, Malloy told Reed to lay back and spread his legs. He once again gave Reed a choice.
“Jim, do you want to put the pain medication on yourself?”
“I want you to do it, Pete, please…I want ….I need you to take care of me.” Once again the tears started to flow.
“Sssshhh, baby, it’s okay! Of course I’ll take care of you, I’ll always take care of you.”
Malloy placed a small dab of the cooling cream on his fingers and began to gently rub the cream on. He did his best to rub on, not into, because he knew touching Jim would really cause him pain. Although he was careful, it still caused Reed some pain. Reed moaned during the whole process, especially when Malloy made him place his feet flat on the bed and spread his legs even wider so Malloy would have better access to the scrotum.
“OH, PETE….IT HURTS….GOD IT HURTS!” Reed cried out as Malloy put some cream on Reed’s scrotum.
Hearing his lover’s cries of pain and knowing he was the instrument of that pain, caused Malloy to tear up. He knew it was necessary, but it didn’t make it any easier.
“There, there, baby. I’m all finished. Here put this cold compress on as well. It will help dull the pain until the medication takes affect.”
“I’m sorry to be such a baby, Pete.”
“You’re not being a baby! I know you’re in a lot of pain, so don’t worry about crying out, okay?”
“I’m so lucky to have you, Pete. I love you!”
“I love you, too. Now close your eyes and try to get some sleep while I get lunch ready for us and Jimmy.”
Reed didn’t argue, as a matter of fact he found it difficult to keep his eyes open. In less than a minute he was fast asleep.
Malloy had just finished putting the finishing touches on the potato salad when Mrs. O’Brien and Jimmy returned. Malloy told Jimmy to be very quiet because his daddy was asleep. Jimmy put his finger to his lips and with his best Elmer Fudd imitation which he loved doing. He turned to Mrs. O’Brien, “Mrs. we have to be vewy, vewy quiet.”
Mrs, O’Brien burst out with laughter, as did Malloy.
“Would you like to join us for lunch? There’s plenty.”
“No, thank you, Pete. I have my cribbage game this afternoon and we start off with a nice meal at Bernie’s Diner.”
“I can’t thank you enough. How can I ever repay you for all your help?”
“Well, now that you ask, I have a few speeding tickets that you could fix for me.”
By the glint in those Irish eyes, Malloy knew she was pulling his leg as she continued, “I don’t want a thing, your thanks is enough. You know, Pete, you’re like a son to me, and what mother wouldn’t help out her son in time of need. Now, I don’t want to hear any more about it or I’ll raise your rent.”
Knowing she had the upper hand on him once more, Malloy gave her a kiss on the cheek as she left for her card game.
Malloy managed to keep Jimmy occupied until he heard Reed coughing in the bedroom. “Okay, Jimmy, Daddy’s awake. Why don’t you go on in and tell him Uncle Pete will bring the food into the bedroom and we’ll have ourselves a picnic.” Ten minutes later, with picnic basket in hand, Malloy entered the bedroom to find father and son on the bed. Reed was reading ‘The Cat In The Hat’ to his son. Malloy, not wanting to disrupt the great literary reading, waited until Reed had said ‘The End’ and closed the book before setting the table. He placed a red checkered tablecloth over the bed. He then took out trays of cold cuts, vegetables, potato salad and for Jimmy, his favorite wieners. The three of them had a great time. The medication had taken affect so Reed could really enjoy himself. For the rest of the afternoon, the two men enjoyed each other’s company along with the antics and joy of Reed’s son. Before they knew it, a knock came to the door and Jean was there to pick up her son. After hugs and kisses were given and received and Jean made sure her ex-husband was all right, she left for home. Finally, the two partners were alone.
At nine PM Malloy ran another bath for Reed and they went through the same procedure as the last time. As he did in the afternoon, Reed cried out in pain as the cream was administered. After Malloy was done and another cold compress was placed between Reed’s legs, Malloy got undressed and slipped into bed next to Reed. Lying on his back, he took Reed into his arms. He spoke loving, tender words to him and rubbed his back until he was fast asleep. Malloy fell asleep soon afterwards.
As the days went by, Reed began to heal and the pain became less and less. At the start of the second week when Malloy was putting the cream on, Reed began to react to his touch in a different way. He found himself becoming aroused. He began kissing Malloy’s neck and putting his tongue in his ear, doing his best to arouse his partner as well. Of course it was working, but Pete wouldn’t give in. He stopped applying the cream and placed a cold bag of frozen peas in Reed’s lap.
“Hey, that’s cold!” Reed screamed “What happened to the cold compresses?”
“I ran out of ice, so tough! Frozen peas are just as good and I see by your deflation it works just as well.”
Although Reed was getting better physically, his mood was getting worse. Dr. Thompson came over to examine him and told him he was still to remain in bed for the rest of the week. This annoyed Reed to no end. He advised the Dr. he was feeling better, but the doctor wouldn’t give in. He left Malloy with a very bored, restless and cranky Brat.
By Thursday, Pete couldn’t take Reed’s sassy behavior and temper tantrums any longer. The final straw came when for the 100th time Reed asked to go for a walk. When Malloy for the 100th time said no, Reed pitched the magazine he was reading at the wall and screamed, “You’re just being a control freak! I’m fully healed and I want out of this bed!”
“Well, I’m glad you’re fully healed, Junior, because now I’m going to redden that little butt of yours.” With one swift movement, Reed was out of the bed and over Malloy’s lap. Malloy gave him five solid swats on each cheek then laid him back down in the bed.
Reed rolled over and began to cry, then he began to pout. Finally he turned over to face Malloy who had sat down in the corner chair waiting for Reed to get out of that funk. Reed got out of bed and crawled into Malloy’s lap. “I’m sorry, Pete. I didn’t mean to throw that magazine and I’m sorry I called you a control freak because you’re not. You’re the best Top and partner in the world and I love you.”
“I love you, too, Junior. Let’s forget it. Tomorrow is Friday and Mac is coming over. You can get out of bed then and join us in the living room, and then if you’re feeling up to it, we can go for a walk in the park.”
“I’m feeling up to it now, Pete, so I know I’ll feel even more up to it tomorrow.”
“Don’t be so sure, Junior. You know you have to be disciplined for your actions. You lied to Mac and worse of all you lied to me. That will not be tolerated. Now, Mac and I discussed it and we agreed that he has the right to discipline you as well. Do you understand that?”
Reed was wondering when he and Malloy would be having this little discussion. He knew what he had done was a disciplinarian offence, but he never thought he would be getting a double whammy. He knew he had no choice. Pete was right. He knew Pete wouldn’t let Mac spank him if he really and strongly objected and if his objections were of some substance, but deep down Reed knew Mac had the right to discipline him. He respected Mac very much and he also considered him a friend. He knew Mac had the experience of being a ‘Top’ so he trusted him as much as he trusted Pete not to harm or hurt him in any way, so he didn’t object to Mac’s participation. The only question he asked was if Mac was going to use the paddle like he did on Pete. Malloy assured him that a paddle would not be used.
The rest of the day passed quickly, too quickly for Reed. Before he knew it, it was Friday morning and Mac was sitting in their living room. Reed came out of the bedroom when Malloy called him. With head down and his hands by his side, he waited for further instructions.
Mac spoke first. “Come here, Jim.”
Reed walked over to his Sgt. with head stilled bowed.
“Pete told me he explained to you that I was also going to administer some discipline to you, is that right?” Mac asked.
“Yes, sir!”
“And do you know why I am going to spank you?”
“Yes, sir. For not telling Pete the real truth about the under cover assignment and by letting you think I did. It was like lying and disrespecting you and that’s wrong. I’m really sorry.”
“That’s right! Good, I’m glad you understand, so come here and lie over my lap.”
Because Reed was still naked, he didn’t have to go through the motions of pulling down his pants and underwear. He lay across Mac’s lap and waited for the inevitable. He didn’t have to wait long. In two seconds he felt Mac’s big hand on his butt. One cheek to the other, fast and hard until after thirty swats Reed’s butt had two red spots on them. Mac also heard small whimpers coming from the young officer and knew he had had enough. He pulled Reed off his lap and stood up and opened his arms. Reed wrapped his arms around Mac’s waist and took the offered comfort. After holding him for a minute, Mac pushed him away, and with a big finger, wiped the tears away.
“Okay, Reed, now you know never to lie to me. I’m going to leave the rest of the discipline in Pete’s capable hands. I will see you both at the station on Monday.”
When they were alone, Pete took Mac’s place in the big chair and motioned with his hand for Reed to assume the position. Reed did as he was told and soon felt another wave of spanks on his bare and red butt. Pete didn’t stop at thirty. He continued until he had reached sixty, and his Brat was crying out in pain and begging for mercy.
“Pete, I’m sorry I lied to you! I’ll never keep anything like that from you again! Please stop….I’ve learned my lesson!”
Malloy stopped and lifted Reed off his lap then stood to face his Brat. He took Reed in his arms and held him close.
“There you go now, baby, it’s all over and this incident is behind us. Why don’t you get dressed and we’ll go for that walk I promised you, if you’re up to it that is.”
Reed stopped crying and began kissing Malloy. “You bet I’m up to it. Let’s go!”
Laughing at how quickly his partner was recovering from his discipline, Malloy teased, “I think you better get dressed first before you go out there and get arrested for indecent exposure.”
“Okay, you’re right.” Reed ran into the bedroom and threw on a jogging suit. Before he knew it he was enjoying the fresh air and a sunny day in the park. Malloy suggested that they stop at a flower vender and pick Mrs. O’Brien up a nice big bouquet of flowers to thank her for taking care of Jimmy. Reed willingly agreed. On their way to the vender, Malloy took the opportunity to question Reed on what he remembered that night.
“Things are a little foggy, but it’s slowly coming back to me. You know, Pete, I could have swore that one of the men who was hitting me, was using a night stick and that I’ve seen him around the station.”
“Do you remember his name?” Malloy asked in anticipation.
“Yeah, Johnson,,,, no Jenkins. Yeah, that’s it! Jenkins.”
“That’s goes along with Wilson’s investigation,” Malloy replied. Seeing the confused look on Reed’s face, Malloy told him about the speeding ticket and how Jenkins had talked about what happened to Reed and what Jim was wearing. “Realizing no one knew what you had on except the undercover team, I became suspicious so I told Mac about it who in turn told Wilson who turned it over to Internal Affairs. Sure enough Jenkins is the leader of the gang that is responsible for all the gay bashing that’s been going on the past month.”
“Holy Shit, a cop! I would have never of guessed it.”
“I know, but with all the homophobic guys on the force, it’s really doesn’t surprise me. You know you may have to testify against him in court.”
“Oh well, if I have to, I have to, but with your help I can make it through.”
As they reached the flower stand, the two men changed the subject and went about the job of picking out just the right flowers for Mrs. O’Brien. When the selection was finalized, the partners made their way back to their apartment building. Mrs. O’Brien was very touched by the flowers and after spending a few minutes with her, they made their way back to the apartment. Once alone in the safety of their apartment, the two men fell into each other’s arms and after a few preliminaries, Malloy picked Reed up and carried him into the bedroom and placed him in the middle of the bed. After their clothes were removed they made hot, passionate love. Basking in the after glow, Reed cuddling up to Malloy and thanked him for his patience and gentleness in taking care of him in his time of need and for also taking care of little Jimmy.
Giving Reed another slow kiss on the lips, Malloy replied, “As Mac was right to point out, it is my responsibility to take care of you and my Godson and it is a responsibility I accept freely and with deep abiding love.” With those words they began to kiss and before they knew it they were both aroused and ready to make love again.
THE END
The Tables Are Turned
Written By: D’be-D’be
Officer Pete Malloy knew he had blown it. He had lost his temper and was a little to rough with the suspect and now he was on his way to the Captain’s office. That didn’t bother him as much as the look on Sgt. MacDonald’s face yesterday when Pete told him what had happened. He had remembered that look from the past. It was the look that preceded Pete being placed over Mac’s lap to receive a good sound spanking. Surely that wouldn’t happen this time, but Pete hadn’t been so sure of himself. He’d had a feeling this wasn’t going to be his day from the minute he and Jim got out of bed to start their morning shift.
Yesterday had started off by Pete running out of shampoo; then as he stepped out of the shower to retrieve a new bottle, he stepped on an open tube of toothpaste that had fallen on the floor. Cursing to himself he proceeded to grab a wet towel and wipe up the mess. By this time he was almost fully dry and Jim was banging on the door telling him time was running out and he better get a move on or they would be late for roll call. Pete realized he had yelled at Jim when he told him to keep his pants on and he’d be there in a minute, but he couldn’t help himself. He grabbed a glass from the vanity and quickly washed his hair in the bathroom sink. Coming into the kitchen, he spotted a pouting Brat sitting at the table.
“Hey, Junior,” Malloy softly stated and planted a kiss on his partners neck. “I’m sorry I was a little short with you but I’ve only been up thirty minutes and it’s already been a disaster.”
Over breakfast Malloy told Reed what went on in the bathroom which amused his young partner to no end. “Keep laughing, Junior, and you’ll start your shift with a sore butt.”
Reed knew Malloy was just teasing him, or at least he hoped he was, so acting on the side of caution he stopped laughing and fell into Malloy’s lap.
“Hey, Pete, I’m sorry. I know it’s no fun starting the day on the wrong foot, but remembering I love you should get you through the rest of the day.”
Giving Reed a soft tender kiss on the lips, Malloy replied, “I don’t know if that will make the day go any easier but it sure will warm my heart for the duration.”
Looking at the clock, Malloy pushed Reed off his lap. “Let’s get the led out, Junior. We’re going to be late.”
Malloy’s mishaps were far from over. He broke a shoelace as he was putting his uniform on at the station, then he had to go change his shirt when a fellow officer who wasn’t looking where he was going spilled coffee all over him. Reed took off to roll call before his partner could hear the small giggle that escaped his lips at the sight of Malloy standing there, dripping wet with coffee.
“Hey, Pete,” Jim began teasingly scolding his partner. “You were late for roll call. If I recall that’s breaking one of the rules isn’t it? Ya it is; lines for you when you get home.”
“Listen, Junior, I’m in no mood for your sense of humor right now, so cool the smart mouth!”
“Oh come on, Pete, I was only teasing. Lighten up!”
Malloy was about to give Reed a small lecture when the radio began to squawk.
“One Adam-12 see the man about a missing snake, 1322 Clenmore, apt. 6.”
Turning to face Reed, Malloy questioned, “Snake! Did he say snake?”
“He sure did, Partner,” Reed smirked as he acknowledged the call, “One Adam-12 Roger!”
‘Great,’ Malloy thought to himself. He hated snakes. ‘What else could go wrong today?’
As they pulled up to the apartment house, Malloy grabbed Reed by the arm. “Listen Partner, why don’t you take the lead on this one.”
Knowing Malloy’s fear of snakes, the request didn’t come as a surprise to the young officer. “Sure, Pete, what ever you say.”
A tall man, dressed like a gypsy, came running down the hall towards the two officers.
“Oh, thank the moons of delta that you’ve arrived. Please, you have to help me find Borris. I took him out of his tank in order to clean it and I swear I just turned my head for a moment. When I went to pick Borris up to put him in his basket, he was gone.”
“Did you look all over your apartment, sir?” Reed asked.
“Of course I did, young man. Do you take me for a moron?”
“No, sir. I’m sorry. May I have your name for the record.”
“It’s Gunther, the Magnificent.”
Malloy noticed that Reed failed to ask the one main and important question, so he interrupted his partner to ask, “Gunther, may I ask what kind of snake Borris is?”
“Of course you may ask, Officer. Borris is an anaconda, a 25 foot Boa, who just loves people; believe me, he’s harmless!”
“Well a 25 foot anything shouldn’t be that hard to find,” Reed interjected. “I’ll start looking around the building. Pete, why don’t you knock on a few doors; maybe one of the neighbors have seen Borris.”
“Sounds like a plan. Listen, Gunther, why don’t you go with my partner while I start questioning your neighbors.”
“Thank you, Officer…Malloy. “
Malloy waited until Reed and the man had turned the corner to search the next corridor, then he knocked on the closest door. An elderly woman opened the door an inch or two to observe who was on the other side. When she spotted Malloy, her eyes lit up and she sprang the door wide open.
“Well, Officer, and to what do I owe the pleasure of your company?”
“One of your neighbors, a Mr. Gunther, lost his pet and I was wondering if you happened to notice anything?”
“What kind of pet, Officer?”
Malloy was hesitant to tell the old lady he was looking for a snake but he thought he better come clean or else he may never find out if she witnesses anything or not. “It’s a snake, ma’am; a rather big one at that.”
“Oh my! No, I’m sorry, Officer, I haven’t seen any snakes; maybe a few ghosts but no snakes. Would you like to come in and meet one?”
“One what, ma’am?”
“Weren’t you listening, young man? A ghost, would you like to meet one of my ghosts?”
Malloy tried to stop himself from groaning ‘what kind of building is this, one man has a 25ft snake as a pet and now this lady thinks she has ghosts for friends.’ He was trying to think of a subtle way of getting out of this predicament when he heard a scream coming from the laundry room down the hall.
“Oh dear, that sounds like poor Mr. Holland,” the old lady offered. Malloy mumbled thanks to her and spend down the hall to find a young man in his late twenties, on top of the washing machine screaming his bloody head off. When he saw Malloy, he began to scream even louder: “SHOOT IT…..SHOOT IT….OH MY GOD, IT’S GOING TO KILL ME!”
Malloy stopped dead in his tracks as he witnesses this scared young man on top of the washing machine with a 25ft snake wrapped around him. Swallowing his own fear, Malloy approached the young man and told him to calm down and stop shouting, he was only making the snake nervous. Malloy took a hold of the snake and with quick hands, removed the snake from around the young man and threw it in the clothes hamper on the floor by the dryer and closed the cover.
“Oh….you brave wonderful man,” the young man began to scream again. “You’re my hero!” With those words, he flew off the washing machine into Malloy’s arms and began kissing him all over the face. Then to make matters worse, soapy water from the washing machine began to flow all over the floor causing Malloy to loose his balance, just as Reed and Gunther and the two additional police officers who had come to join the search, came barreling into the laundry room. Malloy fell flat on the floor with the still kissing young man, landing square on top of him. Wet lips and water covered Malloy, who was afraid to open his mouth to tell this young man to get off for fear the man would stick his tongue into his mouth. The young man kept crying and singing Malloy’s praises as Officer Wells finally made the move to remove him from the fallen officer.
“Oh, Officer Malloy,” the young man continued. “I’ve always been a sucker for a man in uniform and you fill that uniform out in such a perfect way, and you were so brave to tackle that beast off me. Please let me repay you with a intimate dinner at my place say, nine o’clock this evening?”
‘This is just great,’ Malloy thought to himself. ‘Of all the people to back up him and Reed, it had to be Wells. In no time flat, this would be all over the station, that he had been propositioned by a gay guy, and of course he would have to act just as disgusted at the thought as everyone would expect him to, so as not to blow his and Jim’s secret.’
“Where is Borris?” Gunther asked a blushing Malloy.
“I put him in the clothes hamper.”
“Great thinking, Partner,” Reed smirked as he handed Malloy a dry towel. “I wish I had a camera to capture this moment” Then Reed couldn’t hold it in any longer and, along with the two other officers, began to laugh in earnest. Reed was laughing so hard tears were falling from his eyes. Wells and his partner were in the same way. Malloy just gave them all a cold stare and left the room.
It took nearly ten minutes for his fellow officers to compose themselves and join Malloy in front of the building. Still grinning but not laughing anymore, the three men gathered around Malloy.
“We’re sorry, Pete, but you have to admit it was a funny scene.” Wells spoke up first.
Malloy had calmed down considerably and he had to admit to himself it must have looked quite funny and he knew if the shoe was on the other foot he would have laughed at someone else.
“Okay, Ed, I guess you’re right. It was kind of funny, but it fits in just perfect with the kind of day I’m having.” Then turning to Reed, he ordered, “Come on, Partner, let’s get back to the station. I have to change my uniform and you have a report to write.”
Reed made his way to the car and without another word, took his place on the passenger side. While he waiting for Malloy to join him, he said a silent prayer that his partner wouldn’t be mad at him for laughing. After all, he wasn’t laughing at Malloy; just at the situation. Surely Pete would know and understand that. Reed turned to see what was taking Malloy so long when he spotted his partner and Wells in deep conversation. Wells’ partner, like Reed, had made his way to his own squad car.
Malloy was a little weary when Wells asked to talk to him in private but thought instead of blowing him off he better find out what he had to say. What Wells told him sent a flood of relief through Malloy.
“Look, Pete,” Wells began, “about what that guy suggested to you, that you meet him for dinner and all; don’t worry, I won’t say a word about that at the station. As a matter of fact I won’t even tease you in front of the others about being kissed by that guy either.”
“What? I don’t believe it! When did you ever pass up the opportunity to embarrass a fellow officer?”
“That’s true. I do like to have fun at others expense, but this is different.”
“How?” Malloy asked nervously. Did Wells suspect what went on in Malloy’s private life?
“I don’t know if you’re aware of this or not, Pete, but my nephew is gay and he goes through a lot of teasing and harassing. For me to tease you about that young man, it would be the same as if I was running down his way of life and, in turn, running down my nephew. I told Reed and Woods to cool it when we got back to the station, and they agreed it would be wrong to say anything.”
“Well, Ed, you never seize to amaze me. Thank you! I really appreciate the gesture and I’m sure that young man and your nephew will too. Now, let’s get back to work!” With a parting handshake, the officers parted ways to make their way back to the cruisers.
On the way back to the station, Reed kept stealing glances over at his partner and, after clearing his throat several times, he asked Pete to pull over into the parking lot of a local restaurant that was coming up on their right. Without question, Malloy did as his young partner requested. Pulling into an empty spot, Malloy turned off the engine then waited in silence until his Brat was ready to tell him what was on his mind. He didn’t have to wait long.
“Pete, I have to admit something to you….ah, when I came into that laundry room and saw that guy on top of you, kissing you and all, I got such a feeling of jealousy, it took everything I had not to grab him and drag his butt all the way downtown.”
“And you’re telling me this for what reason?” Malloy questioned his young Brat.
“I’ve never felt like that before, not even when some guy was coming on to Jean. That feeling kinda scared me.”
“Oh, Junior,” Malloy answered in a tone of voice that let Reed know he understood and that he wasn’t upset with him. “Jealousy is a normal emotion when you’re in love. The trick is to know how to control it and never let it get the best of you. Jealousy in its’ worst form is a sign of mistrust; mistrust of your self-worth and, most importantly, mistrust of your partner. Always remember this, Junior, I love you and only you. You never have to be worried that I would be betray that trust.”
“Oh, Pete, I know that. I really do and you don’t have to worry about me going overboard with this jealousy thing. I just couldn’t wait until we got home to share it with you.”
“I appreciate it, Junior. Now if that’s all, we better get back to the station.”
“Ah, just one more thing. What were you and Wells talking about?”
“Ya, that Wells, he never ceases to amaze me. He told me he wasn’t going to bring up the kissing incident because it would be detrimental to his nephew, who is gay by the way.”
“You must be relieved.”
“That’s an understatement if I ever heard one, Junior. Let’s get back to the station so we can finish this report and get on with the rest of this lovely day.”
Reed looked around and when he was sure no one was around he moved closer and gave Malloy a quick peck on the cheek. Malloy in turn squeezed Reed’s hand with a gesture that spoke volumes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the day went fairly well and Malloy figured he was over the worst. They only had about 45 minutes left on their shift when the call came in, a missing little girl. Since they were very close to the address given, Malloy told Reed to take the call. With sirens blaring, Malloy spend to the scene in record time, only slowing down to make the sharp curve that made the cul-de-sac that led to the missing girl’s home. The little girl’s parents were in the front yard, surrounded by neighbors and supporters. The mother had her head in her hands and it was quite obvious to the two officers that she was very distraught. When she noticed Malloy and Reed approaching, she ran out of her husband’s arms and made a bee-line for Malloy. “Oh please, Officer, please find my little girl. She’s only five years old and she must be so afraid,” Huge tears were flowing from her face and her voice was hoarse from all her crying. The father, on the other hand, was angry and impatient. Malloy told Reed to take him into the house so he could calm him down and obtain as much information as he could. Malloy, in the meantime, did his best to comfort the mother and at the same time get the information he needed to ascertain the situation.
“Ma’am how long has…..”
“Tina, her name is Tina,” the mother offered.
“Yes, Ma’am. How long has Tina been missing and what was she wearing the last time you saw her.”
“Let me think….it was just under thirty minutes ago. I was on the porch there getting the barbecue ready to cook steaks for supper and Tina was playing in the front yard with her favorite doll. The phone rang and I just left her for a moment. It was Harold, that’s my husband, he called to tell me he was heading home and that he was going to stop by the store and pick up a bottle of wine. I swear, Officer, I was only gone thirty or so seconds and when I came back outside, Tina was gone.” The lady began crying again, “Oh, why didn’t I take her in the house with me? I mean, after all, I thought this was a safe neighborhood. Oh please, dear God, where is she.”
‘Damn, I hate missing children’s cases,’ Malloy thought as he filled out the report.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, Ma’am. Now just try to relax and tell me what Tina was wearing.”
“Yes, I’m sorry, getting upset isn’t going to help is it. Let’s see. She had a white T-shirt that had a black kitten on the front playing with a ball of twine, a pair of blue jeans and pink sneakers and, oh yes I almost forget, a pair of pink polka dot socks.”
“That’s great, Ma’am. Now, do you have a recent picture of Tina?”
“Yes, we had some professional ones taken last week. They’re in the house. Please follow me.”
They had just approached the front door when Reed and the father came out. Reed had the picture of Tina in his hand and it was quite evident by the father’s demeanor, that Reed had done an excellent job in calming him down.
Reed took Malloy aside and passed on the information the father had given him.
“She’s a real mommy’s girl, Pete, so she would have never wondered off by herself. They’re new to the neighborhood, so Tina hasn’t really made any friends yet. She loves going to the park and playing on the swings with her doll, but like I said she would never go there without her mother.”
The group that had been gathered around the parents volunteered to canvas the neighborhood to see if the little girl could be found. Malloy thanked them for their co-operation. He was handing out street assignments when Mac and five other patrol cars arrived. Mac took over the scene to free Malloy and Reed to aid in the search. He told them to take the street closest to the park and talk to all the neighbors who lived in that area. Before moving on, Malloy took Mac aside.
“I have a real bad feeling about this, Mac. Call it gut instinct or years of experience, but something tells me we’re in for a real bad scene here.”
Sgt. Mac MacDonald took note of the tension in Malloy’s voice. “I know, Pete, but keep an open mind. I know how you feel about missing children cases but try and keep it cool okay?”
“I always do, Mac. You know that.”
“I know, Pete. That’s why you made Training Officer so quickly in your career. Go on now, go find that little girl.”
Armed with a picture of a little red-haired girl holding her favorite doll, Reed and Malloy set out for the park area. By the time they looked around the park several times and knocked on every door on both sides of the street, it was getting dark and Malloy’s apprehension had grown ten-fold. He told Reed to knock on the green bungalow on the left side of the street as he was knocking on the last door on his side. He knocked several times and rang the doorbell, but no one answered the door. He was about to leave when a small moan could be heard from an open window. Malloy jumped off the porch and did his best to see through the closed curtains. What he witnessed made his heart go cold and his blood boil hot. A man, who looked to be in his late forties with thinning hair and slight build, was leaning over the almost naked body of the little red-haired girl. Without waiting for permission to enter the residence, Malloy yelled to Reed that he had found Tina and proceeded to break down the door. The man tried to make his escape through the back bedroom window. He had one leg in and one leg out when Malloy reached him, and to say Malloy pulled him back in roughly would be an understatement. He dragged the man back into the bedroom and threw him against the wall, not once but several times. He had just turned him around and was pulling his left arm up a little higher than necessary to cuff him which caused the man to scream out, when Reed came into the bedroom yelling: “Pete…Pete….that’s enough….stop….he’s not worth it!”
Hearing Reed’s voice helped calm Malloy down somewhat. He finished handcuffing the suspect and pushed him over to Reed. “Get this scum out of hear while I call for an ambulance.”
“I already have, Pete, and I also let Mac know we found Tina. He’s on his way.”
“Good job, Junior. Thanks!”
Malloy walked into the living room and covered up the unconscious little girl. He knelt down next to her and felt for a pulse. Thank God, she was still alive. With tears in his eyes he brushed a curl away from her face and said a silent prayer to himself for this little angel. He heard her moan and call out for her mother. Malloy gently took her hand and softly whispered to her that she was going to be all right and her mommy would see her very soon. That’s the picture that Mac and the ambulance attendants witnessed as they entered the house together. Malloy, not letting go off Tina’s hand, walked beside the stretcher as she was led to the waiting ambulance. She would be taken to Central Receiving Hospital where her parents were waiting for her. Reed was leading the suspect to the squad car, when the man spotted Sgt. MacDonald.
“Hey you, Sarge! You the one in charge of that animal?” he growled as he motioned towards Malloy with his head.
“I’m his commanding officer if that’s what you’re referring to, yes, May I ask why?”
“I want to report an incident of police brutality. That animal nearly cracked my skull when he banged me into the wall so hard, and I think he dislocated my shoulder putting these cuffs on.”
“Are you making an official complaint, sir?” Mac asked.
“You’re damn right I am! I want him disciplined for what he did.”
“Disciplined? What exactly do you mean by that, sir?”
“I don’t know….suspend him or better still, fire his ass. Just get that brute off the streets!”
“Don’t worry, sir. I’ll look into it.”
“Well, see that you do,” he growled as Reed put him in the backseat of the squad car. Reed leaned against the front bumper. A sick feeling formed in his stomach when he noticed the look on Mac’s face as he approached his partner.
“You heard the complaint, Pete?” Mac asked. Malloy just nodded.
“How much of that is true?”
Looking Mac straight in the eyes, Malloy didn’t hesitate, “Most of it, Mac!”
“Damn it, Peter! What happened to you keeping your cool? Okay, get back to the station and wait for me. I’ll have to report this to the Captain and we’ll take it from there. Now get going!”
“I’m sorry, Mac.” Malloy knew he was in real trouble. The last time Mac called him Peter, he couldn’t sit down for a couple of hours. No, that would never happen. Mac would never….would he? Malloy wasn’t so sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Malloy had to wait a couple of hours before Mac came back to the station. In the meantime, Reed had taken the suspect to the hospital to be checked out. He returned an hour later with the man in tow. He was booked, finger printed and put in a cell. Reed informed him there was nothing wrong with him except a couple of bruises. Malloy for his part had called the hospital several times asking about Tina and was told the same thing every time. She was still unconscious but in stable condition. Reed wanted to stay and wait for him until Mac came back, but Malloy ordered him to go home.
“But, Pete I want to see what your penalty is going to be.”
“Look, Junior, I probably won’t know that for a couple of days. Mac just wants to talk to me to get my side of the story and prepare me for what the Captain might do. Now go home and wait for me. I’ll be there as soon as a can.”
“But, Pete….”
“No ‘buts’, Junior. Now get!”
Malloy’s tone let Reed know the discussion was over, so after giving his partner a reassuring pat on the back, Reed made his way to the locker room to change then he bummed a ride home with another officer so Pete would have the car to get home.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The longer Malloy had to wait for Mac, the more nervous he got. He knew he had lost his cool tonight, but what was done was done. He couldn’t take it back. He’d probably get time off without pay, but he could handle that. He was just about to give up waiting for Mac, when he spotted his Sgt. coming down the hallway.
“Okay, Peter, get your coat, get in your car and follow me to my house. What I have to discuss with you will need some privacy. My wife is with my son on a school field trip so I have the whole house to myself. I don’t want any arguments or discussion about this. Just do it! Now move, Peter!”
“I have to change,”
“I said no discussion, stay in your uniform. Now move it!”
‘Oh shit,’ Malloy knew he was in big trouble and with head down he made his way to the car and on to Mac’s house. Mac must be really planning on blasting him out. He knew it was bad for moral for the other guys to hear their training officer getting chewed out, so Mac was wise in choosing privacy for the lecture. Mac could sure yell loud when he got angry. MacDonald was waiting for him as he pulled into the driveway. He ordered Malloy into the den. When the two men were in the huge room, Mac closed the door and made his way to a huge oak desk and after opening the top drawer he took out a wooden paddle. Expecting a stern lecture, Malloy’s face turned white when Mac turned towards him and he noticed what Mac had in his hand.
“All right, Peter Joseph Malloy, I want you to make your way over to this desk, then I want you to remove your pants and bend over”
“Mac, NO! Come on, that’s not necessary is it?”
“You know it is, Peter. You lost control out there and the only way you will able to regain control of yourself and your emotions is a good sound paddling. Now do as you were ordered!”
Malloy knew there was not use in discussing the matter any further. He knew when he made up his mind to discipline Reed he didn’t take any arguments about it either so, with eyes cast down, he made his way to the desk.
“Mac, do I have to remove my shorts as well or may I keep them on?”
“Oh Peter, what do you think?” Mac waited. “That’s right, Peter.” Malloy heard Mac say sternly, as he removed his shorts then took the proper position at the desk
“Okay Peter, to show you I’m not an absolute brute, I’m going to give you ten quick smacks with my hand to prepare that tender butt of yours, then you are going to receive twenty-five smacks with the paddle on each cheek.”
Malloy began to straighten up in shock. “That’s fifty smacks in all with that thing, Mac. Come on, don’t you think that’s a bit much?”
“Are you questioning my discipline, Peter? Would you allow your Brat to do so?”
Malloy hesitated then nodded ‘no’.
“Fine! Now, Peter, please resume the position!”
The ten smacks stung but hadn’t hurt much, but the paddle was really during the trick. Mac wasn’t holding anything back. Every smack felt harder and harder and although Malloy tried to hold out and not cry out, after about the fifteenth hit on his left cheek he began to whimper. By the time the first twenty-five were administered and Mac had started on the right cheek, Malloy was screaming out in agony.
“OWWWWWW….Oh God….OWWWWWW….Mac, stop please, you’re killing me….OWWWWW”
Not hearing any tears yet, only cries of pain, Mac continued the assault. He didn’t want to punish his friend like this, but he wouldn’t stop until he heard Malloy cry. He knew that’s what was needed. By the time he got to the twentieth smack, Malloy was in serious discomfort and finally the tears began to flow. Huge sobs racked his body as the last five paddle smacks fell. When it was over, Mac threw it down and pulled Malloy up and then into his arms. Malloy clung to his friend for dear life. He was in such pain it felt like someone had taken a blow-torch to his butt. The pain however began to dull as he allowed himself to feel the comfort Mac was giving him. He felt his back being rubbed and his body moving in motion as his friend rocked him back and forth.
“There you go, Pete, it’s all over now and things will soon be on the mend.”
“Oh Mac, that was some session, but you were right, I needed it. I didn’t realize that I was loosing control of myself.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“May I get dressed?
“YA YA…sure you can, if your little red butt can take it.”
Malloy winced as he felt the cotton rub on his sore backside. ‘Damn, Mac could sure pack a wallop.’ He couldn’t wait to get home and take a cool soothing bath. When he was dressed, Mac offered him beer then took a seat on the sofa. Malloy, although he would of loved to sit down next to his friend, had no choice right now but stand.
“Okay, Pete, what gives?”
“Well, you know about Jim and I. Lately he’s been talking about having his son stay with us for two weeks while Jean is on a training course for her new job next month. Now I love my Godson and all, but the longest I’ve been with him is a couple of hours when I babysat last year. I’m just learning to adjust to a new Brat and now I have to adjust to instant fatherhood. I’m not sure I’m up for the task. I don’t want to show any signs of weakness or fear in front of Jim, but I’m just afraid I’m not cut out for fatherhood.”
“Is that all? For the love of Jupiter, Malloy, what you’re going through is what every expected father goes through. I went through it, and I’m sure you know Jim went through it, because you were riding with him the whole time Jean was pregnant. It’s normal to have self-doubts and fear. I mean after all you’re going to be responsible for an innocent young child who will depend on you for guidance, love and understanding.”
“You’re not making this any easier, Mac,” Malloy laughed.
“I know, Pete, but listen to me. This may be the one time you have to let your Brat take the lead. He’s had more experience in raising a child than you have. Letting him lead in this does not and will not under mind your authority and you know that, so do me a favor and relax. Don’t be afraid to ask Jim for advice and guidance. I’m sure he will appreciate and be touched by your trust in him in this manner”
Malloy knew his friend was right. He could see it all so clearly now. He was ready to take the chance and he couldn’t wait to get home and discuss things with his Brat. He knew now seeing that little girl in the state she was in, brought everything to a head and he gave small prayer of thanks that he had such a great friend in Mac who knew what had to be done.
“Thanks, Mac, for everything. Now, if you can lend me a pillow or something, I think I’ll drive myself home.”
Mac couldn’t help but laugh out loud as he handed his friend a big soft pillow and before they parted the two men embraced in a warm and caring hug.
As Pete made his way to the car, it occurred to him that he had forgot to ask Mac what the Captain had said about his actions. Mac told him to report to the Captain’s office tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock, where he will learn what the Captains final decision will be. With a final wave, Pete placed the pillow on the seat, gingerly sat behind the wheel and headed home to his Brat.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reed was almost frantic, waiting for Pete to return. While waiting he had made himself a peanut butter sandwich and a cup of tea. He then took a shower and cleaned up the bathroom and folded the laundry that was waiting in the basket. He then tried to sit and watch television, but he was having a hard time concentrating. Every time he heard a car, he would run to the window to see if it was Pete. He had even called the station, only to be told Pete had left over an hour ago. Where could he be? Maybe he should call the hospitals to see if Pete was in an accident or something. “Get a grip, Reed,” he scolded himself. If Malloy was hurt or something, one of the guys would have alerted him. He finally decided to try the station one more time, when he noticed the flashing red light on the answering machine was blinking. “Oh damn!” he cursed himself. He was so upset, he totally forgot to check the answering machine. With his heart pounding in his chest, Reed pressed the message button. Tears of relief filled his eyes as he heard Malloy’s strong, reassuring voice: “Hi, kiddo, it’s me! Don’t wait for me to eat. Mac asked me to come over to his house to discuss my stupid actions this afternoon, so I’m not sure how long I’ll be. See you when I see you and oh, by the way, you know you loves ya, right? See ya!”
Pete must have called when he was in the shower and he hadn’t heard the phone. Well, he knew for sure, he had to calm down. He didn’t want Pete to come home and find him upset. He’d know he hadn’t checked the machine again. He always forgot to check the machine. He wasn’t used to having one. He better start getting into the habit of checking it or Pete will give him a reason never to forget again. A little voice told him he better tell Pete he forgot to check the machine, but he ignored it convincing himself Malloy would never know the difference. He had managed to calm down just as he heard Malloy’s key in the lock. Reed flew into the den and pretended he was engrossed in a sitcom as Pete stuck his head into the room.
“Hi, Junior, did you eat yet?”
Reed noticed Malloy was walking a little funny as he watched him make his way back into the kitchen.
“Yes, I had a sandwich and a glass of milk, did you eat?”
“No, not at Mac’s. I went through the drive-thru and grabbed a hamburger. I ate it on the drive home.”
“Why do you still have your uniform on, Pete?”
“Mac was in a rush to get home and talk with me, so I didn’t take the time to change. Look, I think I’ll take a bath and relax; it’s been a long rough day”
Once again Reed noticed Pete was walking funny. “Hey, Pete, did you hurt your back or something? You’re walking like you’re in pain.”
Malloy hesitated to tell his Brat what had taken place at Sgt. MacDonald’s house but decided he had a right to know. “Look, kiddo, come and sit by the tub with me and I’ll tell you all about it, okay?”
Reed followed his Top into the bathroom. His jaw nearly fell to the floor as he noticed the red spots on Malloy’s butt when Malloy stripped.
“Oh my God, Pete! Mac spanked you, didn’t he? You got spanked tonight?” He couldn’t keep the excitement and astonishment out of his voice.
“Yes, Junior, I got disciplined tonight. Like you sometimes, when a good spanking is what it takes to get you back in control. Mac realized my behavior this afternoon was uncharacteristic and, just like in the old days, he took it upon himself to make me realize I was out of control for some reason and to help me work it out.”
“What were you out of control about? Were you …..are you having second thoughts about me…..about us?”
Reaching out to take his Brat in his arms, Malloy reassured Reed it had nothing to do with their relationship. “Look baby, I want to talk about it, but right now all I want to do is soak my sore butt. Mac used a paddle and believe me he was none to gentle about it either.”
Reed couldn’t help but resist teasing his partner “Oh Petey, is your wittle butt sore? Here let Jimmy kiss it all better.”
“If you know what’s good for you and your little butt, you will cut it out now, understood?”
“All right…all right, but why don’t you let me join you in the tub and I assure you in no time flat you’ll forget about your pain.”
With a gleam in his eyes, Malloy got in the tub then reached out and took Reed’s hand. “Okay, Junior, make yourself good to your word and turn my pain into pleasure.”
Reed took the washcloth in hand and slowly and sensuously washed every part of Malloy’s body. He then got out of the tub, lifting Malloy with him. He then proceeded to carry Malloy’s wet body to the bed. He pressed closer to Malloy and captured his Top’s lips with his own. Reed nipped at Malloy’s lips sliding his tongue into the other man’s mouth when Malloy opened it to protest. For an eternity their tongues dueled, trading dominance of the kiss back and forth until they were finally forced to come up for air. Reed then reached down and took Malloy’s penis in his hands and gave it a squeeze.
“Okay, Partner, I want you to relax let me take control, okay?” Not waiting for a reply, Reed moved in for another kiss as his hands explored Malloy’s body. Malloy moaned as Reed’s hand slipped under his back to massage his still sensitive butt.
Reed broke the kiss once more as his hand moved to tease Malloy’s left nipple.
“Damn it, Junior!” Malloy cried out as Reed took his right nipple in his mouth and sucked on it until it was pebble hard. Malloy began to move uncontrollably under the assault. Finally Reed moved down Malloy’s body and took his now hard erect penis into his mouth. Reed took his time, stopping from time to time, removing his mouth until Malloy was begging him to continue, then he would take Malloy back into his mouth to the hilt and suck until there was not tomorrow. He felt Malloy’s body shake in deep passion as his orgasm grew near. He removed his mouth and finished his partner off with his hand just the way Malloy liked it. Now it was time for his release and he wasn’t sure if Malloy would allow him to do what he wanted to do but he was willing to take the chance. He placed Malloy’s legs on top of his shoulders and reached for the lube, resting on the nightstand. Placing a big blob on his index finger, he gently moved in between Malloy’s butt cheeks. One finger then two until Malloy was fully stretched and prepared. He waited for Malloy’s protest of what was about to take place and hearing none, he replaced his fingers with his hard erect member. He slowly eased himself in, pausing every so often to allow Malloy to adjust to his size, and to also keep himself from loosing control to soon. Finally he was in completely and once again he stopped. Malloy on the other hand had other ideas and began to buck his hips urging Reed to continue. Pleased by Malloy’s love and trust Reed complied with Malloy’s unspoken request. He moved back until only the head of his penis was still held inside then pushed back in. This time both men cried out with pleasure, as a quick furious tempo was set. Malloy moved with Reed’s every thrust. Finally Reed felt the end coming and reached under him to take Malloy’s erection into his hand. Together their orgasm burst forth causing them to scream out in ecstasy. Malloy scream louder as his second orgasm of the night hit. It was wonderful. When Reed was finished he slowly ejected himself and rolled over, taking Malloy in his arms. The two men kissed once again sharing a deep, passionate kiss.
“Oh God , Pete! I can’t believe you let me take full control like that. I love you so much and now even more than ever, if that’s possible.”
“Well, Junior, like the spanking this afternoon, where I gave up control to Mac, I felt like giving up a little control to you, and I knew you were up for the challenge.”
“Thanks, Pete, but you will always be in control. You didn’t give it up, you just let me lead for a change and it was nice.”
“You know, you’re right. Good thinking, baby, and you know you were also right when you said you’d take my pain away.”
“I’m glad. Now are you ready to tell me why Mac felt you needed discipline?”
Tears filled Reed’s eyes as Malloy confessed his fears and insecurities about little Jimmy, and how Mac had made him realize what he was going through, was normal behavior. He began to cry in earnest when Malloy asked for his support and help in this matter.
“Oh, Pete. Of course I’ll help you. That’s what our partnership is all about. You help me in so many ways, in this small area the tables will be turned. I had a lot to learn when Jean and I took Jimmy home and believe me, I’m still learning. We’ll learn together just as all new parents do, agreed?”
Holding his young partner close, Malloy shook his head in agreement.
“Hey, Jim, I have a feeling I’m going to get a few days off without pay for my behavior this afternoon. Do you think Jean would agree to let Jimmy come over here the two days of your time off and my suspension overlap? It will be good practice for me before we have him for the whole two weeks next month.”
Reed sat up as the excited thought of having his son for a couple of days, hit him.
“Oh, Pete, that’s a great idea! I’ll call her in the morning. I love you!”
“I love you too, but suddenly I’m very tired. Having the tables turned on me three times today has taken its toll. Turn out the light and let’s get some sleep. I have a feeling I’m going to need all the rest I can get.”
With one final kiss the two men fell into a deep satisfying sleep.
The End.
Breaking The Rules
Written By: D’be-D’be
It started out as another hot sunny day in L.A. It was the sun steaming through the bedroom window that woke Officer Jim Reed out of a deep, peaceful sleep. As he slowly became aware of his surroundings he realized he was wrapped securely in the arms of his partner, Pete Malloy. As he snuggled closer, he smiled and said a thankful prayer that what happened between him and Pete wasn’t just a wonderful dream. It really happened! The two partners confessed their true feelings for each other last night and with Jim’s complete consent, Pete took his virginity. Although Pete was as gentle as he could be, and took measures to make sure Jim was fully prepared, it still hurt, but only for a few minutes then the pain gave way to pure pleasure and ecstasy. It was wonderful. Pete was the perfect lover and when both men had reached their climax, they fell asleep in each other’s arms and that’s where Jim found himself this morning. He lifted his head to read the alarm clock and noticed it was almost time to get up. He decided to wake Malloy up before the alarm could. He began to nibble on Malloy’s ear and then proceed to place wet kisses on his neck. He giggled to himself when he heard Malloy growl.
"If you give me a hickey you’ll have a hard time sitting in the squad car today."
"I’ll be gentle."
"Well, I won’t be!" Malloy began to laugh as he rolled unto his side and began to tickle his young partner who began laughing with glee. Malloy then leaned down and gave Jim a long, lingering kiss. He only stopped when the alarm began to beep.
"Mmmm, Pete, don’t stop. You kiss so good!"
"Gee thanks, Junior, but we better get up because we have roll call in an hour."
"Why don’t we call in sick and stay in bed all day?"
"Come on, Jimmy, get up and hit the shower."
"Why don’t we save time and shower together?"
"If I get you alone in the shower, we’ll be late for sure." Malloy pulled down the sheet and gave Reed a love tap on his bare butt. "Now into the shower with you and I’ll start breakfast."
The two men had both showered and had eaten breakfast in thirty minutes and after five minutes of cuddling and petting to help them make it through the day, they left for work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

As Reed was getting ready for roll call a fellow officer, Brian Rider, noticed a new sparkle in Reed’s eyes.

"Hey, Jim. Things must be better at home; you lost your blues look."

"Ya, life just got a lot better. I’m happier than I’ve been in years."

"You and Jean made up after your big fight then, eh?"

"Ya, after a long talk things are now on the right path."

"Great! Hey, let’s hurry or we’re going to be late for roll call."

Sgt. Macdonald had already started the day-watch briefing when Rider and Reed slipped into the room. Reed sat down next to Malloy, eyes down.

"Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to attend roll call, fellows," MacDonald spoke out. Reed blushed deeply and mumbled an "I’m sorry, Sarge." Malloy slipped a note to Reed simply stating, ‘not as sorry as you’re going to be later’.

Reed’s stomach did a little flip at what exactly Malloy meant.

Things were quiet in the squad car and Reed knew Malloy was annoyed at him. After clearing the watch, Reed turned to Malloy, "Pete, I’m sorry for being late. Me and Brian were talking and time got away from me."

Malloy didn’t reply but kept staring straight ahead. Reed hated the silent treatment. He began to sulk as he crouched down in the seat. Malloy gave his partner a sideways glance and with a smirky grin, he told Reed, "Gee, you’re cute when you pout" and he reached over and squeezed Reed’s hand. Reed squeezed back and a huge smile came over his face. He knew all was forgiven, for now anyway.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first half of the watch went by with just a few minor calls: a neighbor dispute, a disturbing the peace, and two highway infractions. When they got back into the car after handing out a speeding ticket to a young woman on her way to the beauty parlor, Malloy looked at his watch and noticed it was past lunch. "Jim, ask for a Code 7 and we’ll hit Duke’s for a chili burger."
They were granted a Code 7 and after they were waited on and drinking their coffee, Reed took a deep breath and took a chance to ask his partner what he meant by that note he passed him at roll call.
Malloy, deciding to tease his young partner, replied, "What note?"
Taking it out of his shirt pocket, Reed slipped it across the table to Malloy. "This note," Reed whispered.
"What do you think it means, partner?"
"I’m going ….I’m going to get punished right?"
"That’s right, Junior, you are!"
"What kind?"
"What kind do you think you deserve?"
Before he answered Malloy, Reed went over the list of rules in his head. He thought about his actions, and knew it fell under the heading of ‘being unprofessional’.
"Well, Pete, I guess it was very unprofessional of me to be late for roll call so maybe I could write lines."
"Sounds good to me…lines it is. But how many is up to me!"
"That sounds fair."
Reed began to relax and enjoy his food.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Finally their watch was over and, after the endless paperwork, the two officers headed home. They stopped at the market to pick up a couple of steaks and all the fixings. While Reed paid for the groceries, Malloy slipped next door to the stationery store and picked up some scribblers, lined paper, pens, and a leather-bound diary. He also purchased a couple of Jim’s favorite chocolate bars for a special treat. He then went next door to the health spa and picked up a bottle of edible chocolate massage oil.

After carrying in the groceries, Pete led Jim to the kitchen table and sat him down with a pen and five sheets of lined paper. "Okay, partner. I want you to write this down, ‘I will not be late for roll call again’ on every line on these five sheets. I want them neat and legible understand?"

"Yes, sir," Reed answered without argument.

While Reed did his lines, Malloy put the groceries away. He then commenced grilling the steak and sautéing the mushroom and onions. He also prepared a Caesar salad and put garlic bread in the oven to heat. All the various scents made Reed’s mouth water, but he still took his time doing the lines because he wanted them perfect in order to please Malloy.

When supper was almost ready, Malloy checked on Reed’s progress. He was pleased to see the young man was on the last page and his penmanship was clean and precise. When Reed finished he handed the sheets to Malloy for inspection.

"Very good, partner. Now let’s eat."

Malloy had set a real romantic table. Candles were burning and the wine was chilling. During supper they talked over their day while holding hands. Malloy suggested they have coffee and dessert in the den. Reed took Malloy’s hand and led the way. Snuggled up on the sofa, Malloy took out the chocolate he had purchased earlier. To see the pleasure in Reed’s eyes was well worth the extra cost of the imported candy.

"Oh Pete," Reed gushed like a little boy, " you didn’t have to do that, but I’m sure glad you did…I love you so much, Pete!"

"Ha ha….I love you too, Jimmy. Now let’s have a taste of that chocolate."

Reed began to break off a piece for Malloy. "No, Jimmy. Put it in your mouth and I’ll take a taste from there."

Reed blushed deeply but without hesitation popped a huge piece of dark delicious imported chocolate into his mouth and savored the melting sensation on his tongue. But in a second that savoring sensation became extra ordinary when he felt Malloy’s tongue slip between his lips and begin swirling around Reed’s in order to partake of the chocolate. The kiss led to petting, which led them to the bedroom.

"Jimmy, I know how you love chocolate. Well, partner, do I have a chocolate sensation for you. I want you to strip and lay down on your stomach on the bed and close those deep blue eyes of yours and relax."

Malloy took the bottle of massage oil and poured it into a dish, which was heated by a glowing chocolate scented candle. While waiting for the oil to heat, Malloy began giving Reed a gentle back rub.

"Mmmmmm, Pete, that feels so good. You have such magical fingers."

"Thanks, partner." Malloy then reached behind him and poured some of the heated oil on the palms of his hands and rubbed them together. He then proceeded to give Reed a slow and sensuous massage. He rubbed the oil into every nook and cranny. As he approached Reed’s buttocks, he spread the cheeks apart and poured some hot oil in between the crack. He slipped a finger in and gently pushed it in and out, until he heard Reed moan in ecstasy

"Are you ready to eat some more chocolate, partner?" Malloy asked.

"I sure am!"

Malloy turned Reed unto his back. Reed watched in anticipation, as Malloy poured some oil over his penis and approached his young partner. Reed bent down without hesitation and took Malloy in his mouth. For his part, Malloy took Reed’s organ in his hand and began to pump to match the same rhythm of Reed’s sucking motion. Reed was a real expert in the art of oral sex. His actions were causing Malloy’s eyes to roll back into his head and allow a loud groan to escape. Malloy gently pulled away from Reed and turned him over on his stomach once more.

"Get on all fours, Jimmy. I want to finish inside you."

Reed didn’t need any more encouragement. He assumed the position and once more felt Malloy’s fingers inside him, as his partner lubricated him with more oil. Seeing that Reed was prepared Malloy slowly entered him and began to make love to Reed like there was no tomorrow. He also replaced his hand on Reed’s penis and together they reached the most exuberant orgasm.

Falling asleep in each other’s arms, the two police officers were enveloped in love and the sweet scent of chocolate.

Malloy woke as the sun was coming up. He knew he didn’t have to get up this early, because he and Reed were starting their PM shifts today (3PM-11:30PM). He noticed Reed had managed to kick the covers off while still remaining in Malloy’s arms. Reached behind Reed, Malloy pulled the covers back in place and, after a small kiss on Reed’s forehead, felt back into a contented sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Officer Ed Wells was just getting out of his car when he spotted Malloy and Reed entering the parking lot. Curious as to why the two men were traveling together, he waited until they approached the back entrance. He held the door open for them. Wells was the hot dog of the department, always bragging and showing off. He was a good cop and when you get down to it; that’s all that matters out there. His personality however, always seemed to grate on Malloy’s nerves.
"Hey, Reed," Wells asked, "you forget how to drive or something? You’ve been driving with Malloy a lot lately."
Reed was about to answer when Malloy interrupted, "If it’s any of your business Wells, which it isn’t, but I’ll tell you anyway, because you won’t leave us alone until you find out. Jim is living with me while Jean and the baby are away. Their house is under major repair, so Jean took advantage and went to visit relatives back east." Wells, satisfied with that answer, just shook his head and followed Reed and Malloy through the door.
During the pm-watch roll call, Sgt. MacDonald passed out the new hot sheets of stolen vehicles. He also let them know about a lone burglar by the name of Hall, who had a MO of robbing warehouses late at night.
"He’s done a lot of time for burglary in the past and he is a violent and dangerous person, so be careful and cautious if you’re called to a 211 at a warehouse location. Be alert and don’t take any foolish chances. If there are no questions, fall out for inspection."
They were on patrol for about a minute and Reed still hadn’t cleared them. "Hey, Reed!" Malloy shook his partner. "Clear us all ready!"
"Oh, sorry." Picking up the mike, Reed spoke into it, "One Adam-12 pm, watch clear!"
A sexy women’s voice replied, "Roger, Adam 12."
Malloy, sneaking a slide glance at Reed, asked him what was on his mind, as if he didn’t know. Malloy knew the confrontation with Wells this afternoon had shook Reed up.
"Ah, Pete…Maybe I should move back to my place."
"What’s the matter, Junior? You don’t like living with me?"
"I love living with you, Pete. You know that, but after awhile it’s going to be more than Wells who is going to start asking questions."
"Ya I know, partner. Look, let’s give it until our days off at the end of the week then, between the two of us, we can come up with something okay"
"That sounds good. Okay, Pete, I’ll let it drop for now."
‘Sure you will,’ Malloy thought to himself. Reed was never one to let something drop when he had it on his mind. He was about to tease Reed about that when a call came in, "One Adam-12, One Adam-12! See the woman, unknown trouble, 1683 Belmont Street, handle Code 2."
Malloy flicked on the lights but not the siren, as Reed acknowledge the call, "One Adam-12, Roger."
Malloy pulled the squad car to the curb as he spotted an elderly woman waving them down. The two officers got out, placing their hats on their heads and their batons in their belts.
It was plain to see the woman was quite worked up as she approached them, "Hurry up, young men. It’s Mr. Peterson. He’s not answering his door and I know something is wrong."
"What makes you think that, ma’am?" As senior partner it was Malloy’s place to enlist the woman into giving them the facts.
"Well, for the past two years we’ve had an standing date to take in dinner and a movie. I arrived here about twenty minutes ago and rang his bell but there was no answer and I know he should be home. That’s why, young man."
"Ma’am," Reed broke in. "May I have your name, please?"
"It’s Wallace…Martha Wallace…please hurry!"
Malloy instructed Reed to go to the back door while he approached the front door and began ringing the bell, then knocking on the door, all the while calling out for Mr. Peterson. Reed in the meantime was doing the same thing at the back entrance. Getting no reply, he decided to look through a back window, which he discovered gave him access to the bedroom. He spotted Peterson lying face up on the floor by the bed. He called out to Malloy for assistance. Malloy was at his side in seconds, with Mrs. Wallace right on his heels. When Malloy assessed the situation, he ordered Reed to break a small area of glass around the window lock in order to open it up. When the window was opened, Reed slipped in and opened the back door for Malloy.
Malloy went directly to the body and felt for a pulse. He found one; it was weak but it was there. "Call for an ambulance, partner!" he called to Reed as he commenced CPR. Mrs. Wallace dropped into the corner chair and observed Malloy with awe as the young officer tried to breathe life into her friend. After what seemed like hours, she heard the sound of the ambulance siren make its’ way to the back entrance. Only when the ambulance attendants entered the room, did Malloy stop.
Mrs. Wallace looked up at Reed who, after calling the ambulance, had reentered the room and was standing beside the chair. "Your partner is really something, isn’t he?"
With moist eyes and the sound of pride in his voice, he answered the woman, "He sure is, Ma’am. He’s really special."
Malloy, for his part, sat down on the edge of the bed to try and regain his breath. Mrs. Wallace approached him and threw her arms around his neck. "Oh, Officer Malloy!" She had taken notice of his nametag as she approached the bed. "You were wonderful, simply wonderful… you saved Walter’s life!" Reed chuckled to himself at Malloy’s discomfort. The woman was hugging his neck and kissing his cheeks, as she kept exclaiming, "Simply wonderful!"
Malloy managed to pry the grateful woman off him as he gave Reed a dirty look over her shoulder, for not coming to his rescue.
"Ma’am, why don’t you follow the ambulance to the hospital? I’m sure Mr. Peterson would be comforted to know you’re there waiting for him."
"Oh….yes, Officer. Thank you." And with a final hug, she hurried out the door.
Reed collapsed in laughter in the chair as he mimicked Mrs. Wallace, "Oh yes, young man, you’re simply wonderful…wonderful!"
"Keep it up, Junior, and I’ll really give you a real reason to collapse in a chair."
Reed wasn’t too afraid when he heard the teasing tone in Malloy’s voice.
He stopped laughing as Malloy helped him out of the chair, and as they left the room, Reed whispered, "I’m really proud of you, Pete, and I love you."
"Thanks, Junior. Now saving someone’s life is hard work so let’s see if we can get a Code 7."
They were granted a seven and, just as Malloy thought, Reed brought up their living arrangements again.
"I said we’d discuss it on our days off, so drop it!"
"But, Pete….."
"I’m warning you, Junior, to change the subject!" There was no teasing tone to Malloy’s voice this time, so Reed quickly changed the subject.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Back on watch they had a few traffic violations, one family dispute, and a couple of other minor incidents. It was almost the end of their shift when the call came in.

"One Adam 12, a 211 in progress at Simpson’s furniture warehouse….One Adam 36 will assist….handle Code 3."

Malloy turned the sirens on as Reed acknowledged the call.

"This is it, partner. Remember to do everything I say. If it’s that Hall man Mac warned us about, he’s armed and dangerous."

"Okay, let’s go and remember it’s going to be dark in there, so as we go in, stay low and let your eyes adjust. Whoever is in there will have the advantage."

"Do you think it’s the fellow Mac talked about during roll call?"

"Could be and if it is, that means he’s a professional and really dangerous, so be extra cautious."

Just as the door of the warehouse opened and the light was allowed to shine in, a shot rang out. Malloy and Reed hid themselves behind a stack of crates in the corner by the door. As another shot rang out, splintering the corner of one of the boxes, Malloy and Reed got a good look at where the culprit was hiding, by the flash of the muzzle blast.

"Okay, Jim, stay here! I’m going to make my way to the front by hugging the wall. You keep shooting to attract his attention and to keep him busy."

"Okay, Pete."

"Now, remember, don’t move from this spot or you’ll open yourself up as a target."

"I know… I know… I’ll stay put."

Malloy began his journey to the front of the building to get behind the suspect as Reed gave him cover fire. It seemed to take forever, but gradually Malloy was getting close to his target. Then he noticed something that made him stop in his tracks. His partner had made his way up the stairs and was crawling on the ceiling beams to make a drop on the suspect. He was a sitting duck if the suspect looked up and Malloy wasn’t in position yet to get a clear shot. Reed was slowly making his way across the narrow beams when he almost lost his balance. It caused some sawdust to fall from the ceiling, which made the suspect look up. Reed kept moving, but since he had no cover up there, the suspect had a great target. Malloy knew he had run out of time and options. He took a shot, hoping to get the man’s attention away from Reed. It worked. The man shot back and, although Malloy managed to duck behind another crate, the bullet still grazed his forehead. His need to protect Reed was greater than his own, so he stepped out from behind the box and took a flying leap, landing on the suspect and wrestled the gun away from him. By the time Reed made his way down, Malloy had the suspect cuffed, his rights read and was handing him over to the two other officers who had made their way in from the front exit.

Dusting himself off, Reed ran over to Malloy, "Hey, you got him, partner. Good work!"

All he got from Malloy was a cold stare.

"Hey, Pete, your forehead is bleeding. Are you all right?" Woods asked.

"Ya! The guy shot at me but I was lucky and almost manage to get out of the way."

"Where was your partner?"

"Oh, you mean Reed, the circus high wire act over there. He was crawling the beams."

"Damn it, Reed! That wasn’t too bright! You left your partner wide open!"

It became all to clear to Reed, just what a stupid mistake he had made. He knew he should have stayed put but felt he had to justify his actions to Woods and to his partner.

"I could see the suspect from where I was and I thought he was getting a jump on Pete, so I thought the best course of action was to come down on him from above."

Malloy wasn’t buying any of Reed story and, with a cold tone to his voice, told Reed to get to the car and report that they had the suspect in custody and that they were on the way to the station.

"Maybe we should go the hospital and get you looked after," Jim sheepishly stated.

"It’s only a scratch, I’ll be fine now. Move it!"

"But it must hurt?"

Noticing they were now alone, Malloy stated, "It doesn’t hurt as much as your butt is going to when we get home!"

Malloy pushed by Reed without another word, leaving Reed with his mouth open and his heart pounding. With eyes down, Reed followed his partner to the car.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reed was taking an extra long time doing his paperwork and doing his best to stall the trip home to deal with the consequences of breaking the number one rule. He played his actions back in his mind and had come to the realization that Malloy and Woods were right. He should have stayed put. He was never one to sit by when Pete was in trouble, but he had to learn to trust Pete. After all Pete was the best cop there ever was, he knew what he was doing. Shaking his head and trying to swallow the lump in his throat, he tried to go back to his paperwork, but his mind kept going back to what was going to happen when they got home. Then it hit him and he knew what he was going to do. As soon as they got home he was going to admit to Malloy he was wrong. Malloy knew that it was very hard for Reed to admit he was wrong, so when he saw Reed was willing to admit it, he may forgo the punishment for breaking the number one rule and just give him lines again.
‘Ya, that’s it! I’ll be humble and apologetic and all will be forgiven.’ Feeling confident, he went back to his paperwork.
Reed had just finished, when Malloy came around the corner, "Let’s go home, partner."
‘At least he doesn’t sound angry anymore,’ thought Reed, ‘ and that’s a good thing.’
What Reed wasn’t aware of was that while he was wrapping up the paperwork, Malloy was with Mac, doing his best to calm down. Mac had a very positive effect on Malloy. He let him talk it all out and get all the feelings of anger and fear of what his partner did in that warehouse out of his system, so when he got home to administer the punishment (in which Mac was in full agreement, Reed deserved) it wouldn’t be carried out in anger. Reed had never been spanked as an adult so his first time should be done in love, not anger. It should be firm but not brutal. After talking with Mac, Malloy became calm and secure in what had to be done. After a thank-you pat on the back, Malloy went to find his partner to take him home. He knew Reed was stalling, but that was okay because Reed too, had to come to terms as to what was about to take place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As they entered the apartment, Malloy grabbed the mail off the floor, then while shuffling the envelopes, went into the kitchen to grab a cold drink and a couple of aspirins. Reed escaped to the den and turned on the TV. Malloy walked in ten minutes later and proceeded to shut the set off, then made his way to the easy chair in the corner.
"Jim, I want you to come over here." Reed followed Malloy’s instructions.
"Okay, now I want you to pull down your jeans and shorts and lay over my lap."
Reed went immediately into his apologetic mode, "Pete, I was so wrong at the warehouse. You were right I should have stayed in cover. Seeing you hurt has taught me a good lesson and I’ll never disobey you again!"
"Thank you for that, Jim, but I still want you to remove your jeans and shorts and get over my lap."
"But…..but…Pete…I said I was sorry and I admitted I was wrong."
"Yes you did, but it doesn’t alter the fact that you broke my number one rule. Now are you going to strip and assume the position or am I going to have to do it for you?"
Coming to the conclusion his plan had failed, Reed’s eyes began to fill with tears, but he still didn’t do as he was told.
"Very well, Junior, have it your way." Malloy pulled Reed closer and undid his belt, unbuttoned and slid down the zipper of Reed’s pants. He then, in one motion, slid the jeans and shorts down to Reed’s ankles. Leaving Reed with his shirt on, he took hold of his arm and pulled him down over his lap. Tears were falling in earnest as Reed felt the cool air on his bare butt and then the first slap on his left cheek. Malloy started off slowly going from one cheek to another, then getting a rhythm going, he increased the speed and firmness of his slaps until Reed’s bottom cheeks went from a pink to a deep red.
Loud sobs were coming from Reed as he begged his partner to stop, "OWWW…Pete….It hurts….OWWWW…I’m sorry…please stop!"
"Do you know why you’re being punished, Jimmy?"
"Yes sir, I broke the number one rule. I put our lives in danger. I’m sorry….Owww …Pete…isn’t 24 slaps enough?"
Malloy smiled to himself when he discovered Reed was counting each slap and, hearing the pain and sincerity in his young partner’s voice, he also came to the conclusion that for this first spanking 24 slaps were enough. He helped him up and was about to take him in his arms, when Reed kicked his pants and shorts off so he wouldn’t trip as he made his way to the sofa. He threw himself down on his side, his back to Malloy and cried his eyes out. Malloy went over to the sofa and placed his hand on Reed’s shoulder only to be shrugged off.
‘Fine,’ Malloy thought to himself. ‘Reed was a sulkier, so he will have to get over the punishment in his own time.’ Malloy went back to the easy chair, turning the TV on as he passed.
It took Reed about thirty minutes to come out of his sulking. He got off the sofa and made his way to Malloy, who looked up and saw that Reed’s eyes were red and the tears had dried on his cheeks. Pete reached out his arms, and Jim crawled upon his lap to snuggle up as close as he could. He nuzzled his head in the crook of Malloy’s neck and started to cry again.
"Do you still love me, Pete?"
"Oh, Jimmy. I never stopped loving you and I never will. That’s not what the spanking was about. You know that."
"I guess, but it will take me a while to get used to it."
"Well behave yourself in the future and you won’t have to get used to it."
Kissing Malloy on the neck, Reed nodded his understanding as he cuddled closer.
"Hey Jim, I don’t know about you but I’m getting a little hungry. What do you say about ordering a pizza?"
Knowing everything was forgiven and forgotten, Reed gave Malloy one final kiss, jumped off his lap, grabbed his jeans and slipped them on as he made his way to the phone.
"I’ll call Mario’s while you set the table, okay?"
Laughing at how fast Reed came out of his funk, Malloy grabbed a couple of napkins from the kitchen table. "Table’s set!" he laughed.
When the pizza arrived and both men were eating their pieces with earnest, Reed attempted to bring up their living arrangement again. This time Pete was receptive to discuss the topic.
"Jim, I think it’s time you let the fellows know that you and Jean have split up and are planning a divorce."
"I was thinking the same thing."
"Good! Then you can tell them that because of the expense of alimony and child support, you can’t afford your place so we decided to move in together."
"Hey, Pete, what a great idea! I would of never thought about that."
"Yes you would have," Malloy hesitated then added, "eventually."
Reed saw the sparkled in Malloy’s eyes and knew he was being teased, so he went along with the game, "are you calling me slow-minded?"
"Well, since you brought it up….."
"Ah Pete, you’re hurting my little feelings."
"Well, they can keep your butt company." Malloy grabbed Reed, flung him over his shoulder, and headed for the bedroom but was interrupted by the ringing of the doorbell. Keeping Reed over his shoulder, he answered the door to find his landlady, Mrs. O’Brien, standing there.
She was about to say ‘hello’ but became silent when she saw Malloy’s partner draped over his shoulder. "My, my, Peter, is your young partner injured or something?"
"No, Ma’am. He was being a bad boy so I was putting him to bed!"
Mrs. O’Brien chuckled as she made her way into the apartment, "Well, Peter, put him down and offer me a chair. I have something important to discuss with both of you."
Mrs. O’Brien was one of the only people Malloy allowed to call him Peter. After all she was like a mother to him. She made him cookies, made sure he got to work on time and that he got enough sleep. People called her a busy body, but Malloy knew better. Placing Reed back on his feet, he pulled out a kitchen chair and offered it to the elderly lady.
"What brings you visiting so late? It’s after midnight, you know," Reed asked.
"Well, as Peter can tell you, I’m a bit of a night-owl. I never go to bed until the wee hours of the morning," she answered. Smiling kindly at the young man.
"That’s right, Reed. I used to wonder if she ever slept." Turning to his late-night visitor, Malloy asked, "What can we do for you, Mrs. O’Brien?"
"Peter, as you know this is a bachelor apartment and for the last week or so, your young partner has been living here, and that is in strict violation of the tenant laws."
"I know, Mrs. O’Brien. I’m glad you came up here, cause it saved me a phone call. You see Jim and his wife are separated and he had no where to stay. Now that they know there’s no chance for reconciliation, they have decided to divorce. Since he can’t pay alimony, child support and all the rent on a place of his own, we were wondering if we could move into that recently vacant, two-bedroom apartment down the hall?"
"Oh, young man," Mrs. O’Brien turned to Reed, "I am so sorry, but you wouldn’t find a better place to live or anyone better to live with. Yes, Peter, that is a wonderful idea. When would you like to move?"
"Would the early part of next week be okay? We have time coming to us and I thought it would be a perfect time to move."
"Perfect…and I already have someone interested in this place, so everything worked out fine."
Making her way to the door and, with an Irish twinkle in her eyes, she once more turned to Reed, "Are you always a bad boy, young man?"
Blushing, Reed answered, "Not all the time, just once in awhile."
"Well I’m sure Peter will put you in your place when need be," she winked at Malloy.
Winking back, Malloy laughed as he opened the door for her,"You got that right, Mrs. O’Brien."
Closing the door he turned back to Reed. "Where were we? Oh yes, I was about to put you to bed!"
Laughing Reed ran toward the bedroom with Malloy in hot pursuit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Patrolling down Murphy Street, Malloy turned to Reed and asked, "How are the guys taking your news about Jean?"

"Most of them sympathize and told me its’ part of the job. The others didn’t say to much one way or the other, so all in all I guess it went all right."

"Great! I heard you talking to Jean when I was in the shower this morning. What’s the latest with her?"

"We’re meeting with a lawyer next Monday to sign the divorce papers and work out the alimony, visitations with Jimmy and Child support."

"That was fast moving. How do you feel about it?"

"It’s fast because Jean and I are in agreement about everything and she also thinks us moving in together is a great thing. As a matter of fact, I’m happy everything is moving at a fast pace. It’s like a sense of freedom, that now I can move on with my life."

"Do you want me to go with you….to the meeting, I mean?"

"I’d love that, Pete, but I think it would be better if I went alone. Knowing you’ll be waiting for me at home will get me through it."

"You can count on that, partner. I’ll be waiting with arms wide open."

Reed just nodded then escaped into his own thoughts until the sound of the radio snapped him out of it.

"All units in the facility and One Adam-12…a jumper on the roof at 1163 Sunset Road, handle Code 2!"

"One Adam 12, roger!"

Lights flashing, but no siren to spook the jumper, Malloy made it to the site in record time. Adam 36 followed close behind. Malloy gave instructions for Adam 36 to wait down on the street for the fire department and ambulance while he and Reed would go up on the roof.

They discovered the jumper was a man in his mid 30’s. He was dressed in a business suit and was waving his brief case from side to side, yelling. "What’s the use, what’s the use?"

Getting as close as he could to the jumper, Malloy began to speak to him in a soft, reassuring voice, "Hey, friend. What’s so bad in your life that you feel you have to come up here and end it all?"

The man didn’t answer but kept looking straight ahead and mumbling, "What’s the use, what’s the use?"

"What’s your name mister? Can we start with that?"

"What’s your name, cop?"

At least Malloy had him talking. "It’s Pete…Pete Malloy. Now come on and tell me yours."

"Fine, if you insist. It’s Martin Thomson and you want to know why I’m up here? Well, Pete, let me tell you. My life is over! I lost my job nine months ago and couldn’t pay the bills. When they came and repossessed the furniture, my wife took my two kids and moved out and then the lights and telephone were cut off. Well I finally got a handle on a job in this building but when I got here it was already taken, so I decided what’s the use."

"Come on Martin, there’s always hope. I know life can be rough sometimes, but the trick is not to let it get to you and to just keep trying."

"What do you know about rough and lonely times? You’ve got it made."

"Let me tell you, Martin. I was a very lonely man for a long time and thought I would never find the right person to love or that I’d be loved back. That is until recently, when that special someone came into my life and for the first time I am truly in love. If I would have given up, I would have missed out on the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me."

Thomson looked over at Malloy for the first time and gave him a sad smile, "You’ve got beautiful eyes, Pete. I hope that person that loves you, tells you that."

"Thank you, Martin. They have, so now why don’t you come down and let’s talk about your options and what I can do to help you find another job."

"You’re just saying that to get me off the roof."

"No, I mean it. I really want to help."

"Well thanks, Pete, but it’s too late for me. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to talk to me." and with that he jumped off the building. Malloy tried to grab him but he was still to far away. He closed his eyes for a second then looked down over the wall to see Martin Thomson sprawled on the sidewalk by the cops’ feet. He turned around and slid down the wall. Reed ran to his partner and laid his hand on Malloy’s shoulder. With a shaky voice Malloy ordered him to call Mac, and CI.

"I don’t want to leave you up here alone," Reed told him.

"I’m fine, Jim. Now you can help me by just doing what I ask, okay?"

Reed was about to put his arms around him when he heard footsteps approach. He looked up to see Mac MacDonald heading towards them. Behind him was Detective Berstein from Internal Affairs and Bill Hudson for Criminal investigations. Malloy knew it was going to be a long shift.

The rest of Malloy and Reed’s shift was going over and over the incident to make sure everything that could have been done, was done. Reed kept an eye on Malloy but this wasn’t his partner’s first jumper and he was handling himself with great composure. Finally it was over and after filling in a few forms, the two officers were told they could go home.

When they got to the car, Pete handed his car keys over to Reed. "Drive; will you, partner? I’m beat!"

"Sure, Pete. Whatever you want."

Malloy didn’t say too much on the way home. The radio was tuned in to their favorite station and they just listened to the soft love ballads.

When they got home, Reed unlocked the door and headed for the fridge. "Want a cold beer, Pete?"

"Ya, that would be great. Just pour mine in a mug while I go to change into my sweats."

It seemed to take Malloy a long time to change so Reed went to the bedroom door and was about to enter when he heard deep sobs coming from the other side of the door. He opened to see Malloy sitting on the edge of the bed with head in hands crying like a baby as he said to himself, "I should have done more….I should of done more."

Reed quickly went over to him and pulled him into his arms and began to rock him gently. "It’s okay, Pete. It’s not your fault. Thomson had his mind made up to jump even before we got there. Please don’t blame yourself."

Still crying Malloy whispered, "If I had gotten just a little closer to him…but I didn’t want to crowd him you know."

Rubbing his back and still rocking him slowly. Reed told his partner he understood. Malloy placed his arms around Reed’s waist and held on tightly and allowed the tears than he was holding in all day to come out. Reed didn’t say another word. He just held Malloy close and comforted him. When the sobs became less frequent, Reed lay down on the bed and pulled Malloy down with him. He continued to rock his partner back and forth and rub his back until he heard the soft even breaths that told him Malloy had cried himself to sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Malloy awoke he was disorientated for a moment. He was wrapped up in Reed’s arms and they were lying across the bed instead of being under the covers.
‘Why are we lying like this?’ Malloy started to ask himself when it occurred to him about how he had broken down in front of Reed, and how his partner had stepped up to the plate. ‘What a sweetie,’ Malloy whispered as he untangled himself from Reed and made his way into the bathroom. He was a little embarrassed about the incident but he realized Reed was up to the task of seeing him in weak moments as well as the strong ones and this would only make their relationship stronger.
As he turned on the water for a shower he realized that this was Sunday, which made it their last PM watch. They then had two days off and, since it fell at the end of the month, it would be a perfect time to move. He would have to give Mrs. O’Brien a call to set things up before they left for the station. He would also have to call Hertz to rent a truck and get the guys lined up. He was about to step into the shower when he heard a small tap on the door and then he saw the handsome face of his partner peek in.
"Hey, partner, what do you say about sharing that hot water?"
Malloy smiled that famous grin of his as he gestured Reed in. It was a marvelous and very satisfying shower for them both. After they were both dried off and dressed they made their way into the kitchen for breakfast. Malloy looked over his scrambled eggs at Reed.
"Hey Jim, about last night. Thanks for being there. I …I…" Malloy stammered.
"Forget it, Pete. Isn’t that what love and partnership is all about? Being there for each other in good times and bad?"
"Ya it is, but it’s not like me to break down like that."
"Admit it, Pete, you’re more sensitive that you let on. I spotted that the first time we rode together. You know I saw the pain in your eyes when you told me about your last partner and how it was eating you up inside that he had died. Crying like you did last night just reassures me that you can be as strong as you are because you do have a soft side and that’s why your so attuned and sensitive about my needs. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Now eat your eggs, partner, they’re getting cold."
Realizing the subject was closed, Malloy moved on to the topic at hand.
"Jim, I know you and Jean are meeting with the lawyer in the morning but after that, how would you like to move into our own place?"
Reed got up so he could sit on his partner’s lap. Snuggling up, he was silent for a moment. "Oh, Pete, that would be marvelous. Do you think you can set everything up in time?"
"Hey partner, you know me. We can be ready to roll as soon as you get back from the lawyers."
"Let’s do it! I love you, Pete!"
"I love you too, Junior. Now get off my lap so I can call Mrs. O’Brien to arrange for the key."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs. O’Brien agreed to give Pete the key tomorrow afternoon and, after Reed called Jean to make sure it was all right with her for the guys to come over tomorrow, they called Hertz to rent the truck.
Before roll call, Malloy arranged for a time with the guys who had volunteered to help. Everything was set. Their shift went by with not major incidents but by the time they arrived home they were both beat.
As they were getting ready for bed, Reed confessed to Malloy how nervous he was about the meeting tomorrow. Being the first time he’s seen Jean face to face since he moved out would be awkward and uncomfortable.
"What if I say something dumb…or not be able to say anything at all…the lawyer will think I’m a real loony."
"Come here, Junior," Malloy whispered softly taking his young partner into his arms. "Look, Jim, you’ll do just find and remember Jean is probably just as nervous as you are. Don’t worry about the lawyer. He’s a professional and I’m sure it’s not the first divorce case he’s handled. Just be yourself and let things happen as they happen. Okay?"
Snuggling up as close as he could to Malloy without lying on top of him, Reed mumbled his agreement, "I guess you’re right, Pete."
"Hey, partner, I’m always right; you know that."
"You sure are and I know the best ‘right’ you’ve ever been."
"Ya? What right is that?"
"When you decided not to quit the force and stay on as my partner!"
Malloy laughed as he lifted Reed’s face up so he could look into those big blue eyes that always melted his heart. "How right you are, partner, how right you are. Now try and get some sleep, it’s going to be a long hard day tomorrow."
"I’d fall asleep better if I could have a long, hard night tonight."
"My, my, my, junior, are you trying to bribe an Officer of the Law?"
"Yes, Officer, I believe I am. What is going to happen to me?"
"Well, roll over on your back and I’ll show you exactly what is going to happen to you."
"Aren’t you going to read me my rights?"
Just before Malloy kissed his partner he stated, "You have the right to remain silent." Then he leaned in and gave him a hard passionate kiss at the same time as he reached over to the bureau for the KY Jelly. Putting some on his middle finger, he spread Reed’s cheeks and prepared him for penetration.
They made love with great passion and then fell asleep in the comfort of each other’s arms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

The meeting at the lawyers went better that Reed expected. Malloy was right; Jean was nervous too and there was little conversation between them after the initial inquiries about the baby and such. Handing Reed a set of keys for the house, Jean told him she wouldn’t be there this afternoon when he moved his things out and Reed told her he understood. When he asked her where to leave the key when they were finished, she told him he may as well keep it because he may need it during his visitations with his son.

The negotiations didn’t take long. The amount for child care and alimony were worked out after a little give and take and also the times for visitations were coordinated with Reed’s days off. The whole business was done in less than two hours, and after a handshake for the lawyer and a hug for each other, they parted ways.

Malloy was waiting for Jim with open arms just as he had promised.

"How did it go?"

"You were right as per usual, Pete. Everything went fine!"

"You had doubts?" Malloy chucked, "I’m hurt."

"You’ll get over it."

Giving Reed a slap across his bottom he directed Reed to go change out of his suit while he prepared lunch. Reed was told the guys would be there in an hour. Malloy fixed a comfort lunch of tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, exactly what Reed needed.

They had just finished and were putting the dishes in the sink when they heard a knock on the door and the familiar sound of Ed Wells’ voice, "Come on you two, time is a wasting!"

Grabbing their coats, the men followed Wells down into the street. Standing by the truck were Officers Woods, Bernstien, and Taylor as well as Sgt. MacDonald.

"Okay, everyone!" As per usual Wells started giving orders, "Malloy and Reed will take Woods and Mac in their car while Bernstien and Taylor can come with me in the truck, okay?"

Everyone said okay and they were off. There wasn’t much to move out of Reed’s house. All he wanted was a bed, his stereo, TV and a couple of chest of drawers. Since he had been living at Malloy’s for awhile now all his personal belongings were already at the apartment complex. The hard work was moving all of Malloy’s stuff from his apartment to the new one. Thank God it was just down the hall. The move went quite smoothly…only a few scrapped knuckles and a few frayed nerves, but all in all it went well. When the move was over, Mrs. O’Brien arrived with cold beers and sandwiches.

"Here you go, gentlemen. Peter wanted me to make sure you had a good meal before you got back on the road; just his little way of saying ‘thanks’."

The men ate like hungry bears that just come out of hibernation. In no time, all that was left were a few crumbs and crumpled beer cans.

When everyone had left Malloy led the way into ‘JIM’S ROOM’.

"Okay, partner, this is going to be the discipline room. You will be taken in here for any rule breaking that occurs, do you understand?"

Reed, with eyes cast down, nodded ‘yes’.

"You can also use it for alone time if you wish. We’ll set up your TV and stereo in here and at any time you need time alone, you can come in here. Sound okay to you?"

"Sounds good!"

"Great, now we’ll also move most of your clothes in here so when we have visitors it will be obvious to them we have our own space."

"Clever!"

"Naturally, and by the way, I’m going to buy you a desk so you can do your lines when needed and I think I’ll get you started on a journal regiment to help you sort out your feeling about things. Agreed?"

"Agreed!"

"Now let’s get the rest of the apartment settled and then we can go baptized our new bedroom."

Reed blushed when he realized exactly what Malloy meant by ‘baptize’. As they left the room and closed the door behind them, Reed looked over his shoulder then stated to Malloy, "I hope I don’t have to spend to much time in that room."

"It’s up to you, partner. You know the rules and the consequences of breaking them."

"I’ll try real hard to tow the line."

"I know you will, partner, I know you will." But as Malloy led Reed to master bedroom, knowing his partner the way he did, he had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before a visit to that room was eminent because no matter how he tried, Reed found it hard to follow any rules. But after time and with patience, Malloy was sure breaking the rules would come less and less frequent, or so he hoped.

The End

Malloy Lays Down The Laws

Written By: D’be-D’be

At the beginning of the mid-day watch from 10am to 6:30pm last Thursday, an event occurred that Officer Jim Reed would wish he had never witnessed. But he had and, being the type of man and police officer he was, he had to report it. He had witnessed a brother officer taking a bribe from a well-known drug dealer. Reed and his senior partner Pete Malloy, after asking for a code 7 and being given permission to do so, entered their favorite fast food restaurant. Once their meals were ordered, Reed excused himself to use the washroom. In order to get to the washroom, Reed had to go down a long corridor and past the loading dock door. It was as he was passing the door on his way back to the table, that he witnessed Officer Mark Hartford taking money from Tony Brown. Transfixed by what he saw, Reed didn't pay attention to where he was walking and banged into a packing crate lying on the floor. The noise alerted the two men. Hartford looked up and made eye contact with Reed. Brown, for his part, took off running.

Hartford approached the young officer with hatred in his eyes. "Listen Reed! If you say anything about what you just saw, your career will be over!"

Reed just stared for a few seconds at the ten-year veteran of the LA Police Department, then turned on his heel and went back to the table.

"What took you so long?" Malloy asked. "I was about to send out a search party for ya."

Reed looked into his partner’s green eyes and mumbled, "I wish you had."

The two men had been partners going on four years and had grown very close. Not as close as Malloy, who was eight years Reed's senior, would like but that was another story. In many ways Reed, who was twenty-four years old, was still very naive about a lot of things so Malloy didn't want to scare the kid in his true feelings for him. At least, not at this time.

Malloy could sense that something had happened and his tuition was right when he saw fear in Reed's deep blue eyes. "Okay, partner. Spill it! What's wrong?" He asked.

Reed struggled with his thoughts for a few minutes, but he trusted Malloy with all his heart and soul. He relied on his partner’s judgement and opinion, so he told Pete what he saw in the alley and how Hartford had threatened him.

"Jim, you have to go to the brass about this."

"I know Pete, but I'm afraid. Hartford had such hate in his eyes."

"Don't worry, buddy. I'll be with you every step of the way and, Jim, if you don't do the right thing and tell, it will just eat you up inside. That's just the way you're built."

"I know you're right Pete, but it doesn't make it any easier. So you'll come with me to see Mac?"

Mac was Sgt. MacDonald their Watch Commander.

"Hey, partner. You know I will."

Reed felt a sense of relief at Malloy's words of encouragement. As he looked at his partner, he also felt other emotions growing inside of him that left him a little confused.

When they returned to the police car, Reed picked up the radio mike. " This is Adam-12 requesting a 6 to the station"

A soft female voice responded. "Roger Adam 12, code 6 to station time 13:40."

"Roger. Adam-12 out!" Reed responded.

Reed was very nervous on his way to the station. He kept bouncing his left leg up and down and clearing his throat. Finally Malloy couldn't take it anymore. He took his right hand off the steering wheel and placed in on Reed's leg to steady it. The touch of Malloy's hand served as a tranquilizer. Without a second thought, Reed placed his left hand over Malloy's. "I'm sorry Pete, I'm just nervous"

"I know, Jim. I'd be too. Let's just take this one step at a time alright?"

"Ya, Pete. Whatever you say."

Sgt. MacDonald listened intently to what Reed had to say. He interrupted him a couple of times to ask specific questions, but mostly he just listened. Malloy remained silent, allowing his partner to say what had to be said.

"All right, Reed," MacDonald stated at the end of the report. "You know I'll have to talk to Hartford about this to get his side of the story."

"Yes....sir."

Malloy could hear the trembling in Reed's voice and placed a reassuring arm around his shoulder.

"I'll do my best to keep this on the QT, but you know how rumors start around here. So watch your back!" MacDonald warned the young officer.

"Don't worry, Mac. I'll keep a close eye on him," Malloy answered.

"I have no doubt about that, Pete," MacDonald responded. The two men were friends for a long time. There wasn't too much they didn't know about each other, so it didn't come as a shock or a surprise to MacDonald when Pete confided in him about his feeling for his young partner.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A couple of weeks had past since Reed 's initial report to MacDonald. As per department procedure, the investigation of wrongdoing was in Internal Affair's hands. For the most part, Reed's fellow officers treated the whole matter as just part of the job. However, there were a few of Hartford’s buddies, as well as his partner, who gave Reed a hard time every chance they got. This was mostly when Malloy was out of sight and hearing distance, which didn't happen to often. Malloy hardly ever left Reed alone, especially after the news of what went down circulated the station. Malloy knew from experience how vindictive his fellow officers could be if they felt betrayed.

Unfortunately Malloy couldn't watch Reed 24-7. One night during shift 1, from 11pm to 7:30am, Reed and Malloy were transporting a DUI suspect to the station when he got sick all over Reed, just as they were entering the station parking lot. Reed headed for the showers and Malloy told him he would be right there, after he found someone to book the man.

"I'll be alright, Pete. Go ahead and book him yourself. He's our collar."

"Are you sure?"

Reed, who was starting to get a little annoyed at being treated like a baby by his partner, assured him he would be fine and proceeded towards the locker room.

Reed stripped quickly and jumped into the shower. He didn't dilly dally because he knew if he was more that ten minutes, Malloy would come storming in with guns blazing. He had just finished drying himself off and had slipped on a clean pair of shorts when he heard a voice from behind that caused him to stiffen in alarm.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Officer big mouth! Where's your shadow?"

Reed turned around slowly to see his worst fears confirmed. Hartford and a few of his buddies were standing in a semi-circle in the middle of the locker room.

"Hey, Charlie. He's a real cutie, ain’t he?"

"Ha, ha, ha. He sure is, Mark. It's a shame to have to mess up that pretty face!" Hartford's partner, Charlie Hodge, took a step towards Reed and was followed by the others. Reed shrank back against the lockers, looking for a way to escape. Hartford and the others circled the bench in front of and on both sides of him.

"Please don't!" Reed pleaded, feeling a sense of helplessness and terror wash over him. Hartford, in a lightning quick move, reached out and gave Reed a slap on the backside. The others laughed as Reed jumped and yelled, "OWWW!" Hodge reached out and grabbed Reed between the legs and squeezed until Reed fell to his knees in pain.

"No, No. Please don't do this... I'm begging you!"

"Hey, boys. Did you hear that? He's begging us. Let's really give him something to beg about." Hartford gave the order and the men began to beat up on Reed. He started to cry for help but was silenced by Hartford's big hand slapping him hard across the face.

"Hey, Mark!" Hartford's partner piped up. "Why don't we teach him a real lesson and take his ass?"

"Do you mean what I think you mean, Charlie?" Hartford asked.

"Mmmm, ya! Let's screw him, since he screwed you when he squealed."

"I like it!"

"Oh, God. NO...NO. Not that! Please, DON'T!" Reed cried out. He tried to fight but was lifted to his feet and grabbed from behind. He felt his shorts being pulled down as Hartford moved behind him. Reed started to shake when he felt his ass cheeks being parted.

"I bet you're real tight, aren't you sweet cheeks?" Hartford asked as he started to place a finger into Reed.

"I suggest you get your hands off him. Right now!" said a low, deep voice from the doorway.

Hartford jumped when heard Malloy's voice. "This ain’t none of your business, Pete, so back off."

"Anything that concerns my partner, IS my business." Reaching for his gun, Malloy repeated, "Let him go and all of you get the hell outa here before you're all put in front of the review board."

Hartford loosened his grip, which allowed Reed to wrench himself away, only to stumble into Charlie Hodge's arms.

Malloy turned his angry stare towards Hodge. "If you don't let him go Charlie, you're going to be singing soprano in the department’s barber shop quartet." Malloy unholstered his weapon.

Hodge stiffened in fear. He let Reed go, then moved backwards to grab Hartford and drag him along the lockers. "Hey man, take it easy. We weren't really going to hurt the kid. Just scare him, honest!" With those words all the men ran out the back way.

Malloy followed their progress, waiting until he heard the door slam at the other end of the locker room. He glanced back at Reed just in time to see his partner’s knees buckle and fall forward.

Reed heard the door close, but he couldn't quite believe he was safe. His body began to shake and then he felt himself falling. If it hadn’t been for Malloy's quick movements, he would have pitched to the floor.

Malloy wrapped his arms around him and felt the deep spasms rocking his lean frame. He lifted Reed and sat down, cradling him on his lap.

Reed couldn't stop shaking. His mind was blurring and, at first, he did not really feel himself being rocked like a baby or hear his partner's cooing words of comfort in his ear. Eventually he allowed himself to be comforted. That's when the tears came. He gave up trying to control them and just sagged against Malloy, clutching him tightly as he cried into his chest.

Malloy's heart broke at the sound of Reed's sobs. He stroked his back and hair, cooing to him softly. Finally Reed's sobs started to fade until all there was left was sniffles and hiccups. Malloy slid a finger under Reed's chin raising it to meet his eyes. "Feel better?" He questioned gently using a thumb to wipe the remaining tears from his cheeks.

Reed blushed deeply in embarrassment. Not only for his breakdown, but, for the fact, he realized he was naked. "I'm... I'm fine, thanks." He mumbled, withdrawing his arms from Malloy's shoulders, then standing up to grab and put on his shorts in one swift movement.

Trying to let on he didn't see Reed blush, Malloy asked, "Hey, partner. We didn't have any breakfast. Do you feel like eating?"

Reed was thinking of saying no but his growling stomach gave him away. Then blushing again, he stated, "Ya, I guess I could use a little something."

"Great! I tell you what. It's the end of shift and, since your wife is out of town, why don't we grab something at my house? That’s after we swing by your place so you can grab a few pieces of clothing and stuff."

"Why would I need that?"

"Because in light of what just happened here and, because Jean is out of town, you're moving in with me for a few days and I don't want to hear any arguments about it?"

Relieved at Pete's suggested, Reed just nodded. "Pete, are we going to tell Mac what just happened here?"

"Do you want to?"

"No, not really. That's something I'd like to keep between us for now."

"Sounds good to me, partner. Now, finished getting dressed and let's roll."

******************************************

When they arrived at Reed's house, Malloy accompanied him into the master bedroom to help him pack a few items. He noticed that a lot of Jean’s clothing and personal items were missing. A lot more than there should be for just a short visit to her sister’s. He also noticed most of the baby’s things were gone as well. He decided to keep his observations to himself for now. Reed had been through enough for one evening.

Reed, for his part, realized Malloy noticed all the missing items but, since Pete didn't bring it up, for which Reed was grateful, he didn't say a word either.

Jean wasn't just visiting her sister. She had taken their son, James Jr., and left him. Things hadn't been good for them for awhile now. Jean noticed a change in her husband since he graduated from the Police Academy and began riding with Peter Malloy. The change was gradual at first, but lately Jim had been talking about Pete all the time. The straw, that broke the camel’s back, happened one night when they were making love and, in the heat of passion, Jim called out Pete's name. Jean left him the next afternoon. Reed came home to an empty house to find a note on the kitchen table. He carried the note in his wallet. He didn't know why, but he couldn't throw it away. He had taken it out and read it so often, the paper was all creased and the writing was wearing out. It didn't matter as he had memorized the words.

Dear Jim:

This isn't easy to write. As a matter of fact it hurts like hell, but for the sake of our son, I feel it must be said. I love you Jim, but that's not enough. You need someone stronger in your life. Someone who can help you get out of those moods you get into. Someone with whom you can share your on-the-job experiences and that someone is Pete Malloy. I know you love me and you love our son but, Jim, you have to admit it to yourself: YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH PETE! I've always suspected you were attracted to men, but I also understand your reasons for being unable to be true to yourself, and of course I loved you so much I married you thinking I could change you. Unfortunately, like so many women in my position, I was wrong. I know you really tried and for a few years we were happy. Then Peter Malloy came into your life, into our lives, and changed everything. Jim, for your sake, I'm stepping out of your life so you can be with Pete. Don't let him get away and don't risk your real chance for happiness. I will never deny you access to our son. I hope we can work out our feelings so we can at least maintain a friendship, like we had in high school, but for now we should not have contact with each other until you've settled things with Peter. Take a chance with him, you may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

The note was simply signed ‘Jean’.

Reed didn't realize he had zoned out until he heard Malloy yell.

"Reed! For the third, time where do you keep your toiletries?"

Shaking his head to clear it, he turned to his partner. "I'm sorry, Pete. My mind was somewhere else. They’re in the lower cabinet in the bathroom."

Malloy just nodded and went back into the bathroom. He came out with a shaving bag and threw in on top of the clothes and other items Reed had thrown into a duffel bag. "Okay, partner. Let's roll. I'm starving."

Reed quickly zipped up the bag and followed his partner out the door. After a quick stop at the corner market for a few groceries, they headed for Malloy's place.

Malloy lived in a one-bedroom bachelor apartment managed by a little old lady, Mrs. O'Brien. Pete was very fond of her and suspected she felt the same for him, although she came across as a gruff old lady. It had all the essentials of home: bedroom, bathroom, combination kitchen-dining room and, of course, a den.

"Throw your stuff on the bed for now Jim, and you can settle things after we eat."

"Thanks, Pete," Reed mumbled on his way to the bedroom. Malloy noticed how Jim hung his head and how his shoulders slumped. ‘Poor kid,’ He thought. ‘If only I could make him feel better....if only!’

"Hey, Pete. This is a nice place," Reed exclaimed as he came into the kitchen.

"Thanks! It suits my needs. Look, why don't you make yourself useful and beat some eggs while I cut up these vegetables. I'll make us my special Spanish omelettes."

Reed reached for the whisk and, from under his eyelashes, he sneaked a peak at his partner preparing his part of the meal. He became so flustered from watching his partner, he grabbed the electric mixer and hit high speed just as he placed it in the bowl. His actions caused the eggs to go flying all over the walls, cupboard and ceiling.

"Jim...Jim! Turn that mixer off!" Malloy shouted.

"What?" Reed turned to hear what Malloy was saying to him but, unfortunately, as he turned he pulled the beaters out of the bowl, still going at high speed. The eggs that were clinging to the beaters began flying all over the place and most of them landed all over Malloy. Pete had egg in his hair, on his shirt and a tiny drop of white foam was dripping off the end of his nose.

"Oh my God, Pete, I'm so sorry," Reed exclaimed when he finally managed to shut off the mixer. Then he just burst out in laughter. He began to laugh so hard he slid down the cupboard and onto the floor.

"Oh, Pete. Ha, ha, ha. If only the guys at the station could see you now. Ha, ha, ha."

Malloy didn't find it amusing. He grabbed a paper towel and proceeded to wipe himself off. "Very funny, partner. Look at this mess, not to mention our dinner is all over my walls."

Reed kept laughing until he detected a warning tone in Malloy's voice.

"Get off the floor and clean this mess up, or else."

"Ah... or else what, Pete?"

Malloy got a twinkle in his eyes as he smiled down at his young partner. "Or else, I'll put you over my knee and give you a well-deserved spanking!"

"You're not serious.....you wouldn't dare!"

"Keep sitting on the floor and you'll find out!"

Reed, who could win a medal for stubbornness, remained on the floor daring Malloy to carry out his threat.

Malloy knew he couldn't back down now. So being used to handling suspects, he moved quickly, grabbing Reed by the shirt collar and, with one swift motion, he had Reed on his feet facing the cupboard. Malloy grabbed the wooded spoon lying next to the cutting board and proceeded to give Reed three playful taps on his behind. Although he was careful not to hit him to hard, the smacks still stung enough to make Reed yelp. Malloy then turned Reed around to face him.

"There! You see what happens when you disobey my orders." He put on his best ‘scolding’ voice. "Now grab some paper towels and help me clean this mess up."

Reed reached behind and gave his backside a quick rub. "That hurt!" he pouted.

"Oh, it did not. The only thing hurt was your pride. Believe me, if I would have wanted it to hurt, it would have!"

"Pete." Reed spoke after a few seconds of silence. "I'm sorry about the mess and I'm sorry I laughed."

"I admit I must have looked kinda funny standing there with egg, literally, all over my face." Malloy chuckled as he ruffled his young partner’s hair.

"Ya...but I'm still sorry. Will you forgive me?"

"Ya..I forgive you. Why don't you finish up in here and, after I change, I'll order in a pizza."

"Pete...."

"Ya."

Unexpectedly, Reed flew into Malloy's arms and began to cry. Soft tears at first, then loud sobs as the secure feeling of Malloy's arms enveloped him.

"Pete.....Jean left me."

"I had a sneaking suspicion when I noticed most of hers and the baby’s things were gone. If you don't mind me asking, why did she leave you?"

Reed struggled to find the right words, then came to a decision. He pulled away from Malloy, reached in his wallet and took out the note.

"This note says it best. Please read it and then, if you're still speaking to me afterwards, I'll be in the den."

As Reed left the room, he looked back. He could see the intense look on Malloy's face as he read Jean's note. He said a silent prayer that Pete felt the same way he felt himself.

It felt as if days had passed, as Reed waited for his partner to enter the den. His heart was pounding so hard he was sure it could be heard all over the neighbourhood. Finally the door opened and Malloy entered the room. Reed started to stand but his partner motioned for him to remain seated.

Reed was stunned to see tears in Malloy's eyes, as he sat down next to him. In the four years, in which Jim had been riding with Malloy, he had never seen him cry. He had seen him choke up after a child had been injured or a fellow officer was in danger, but he had never seen actual tears in his eyes.

"Oh God, Pete. What's wrong?" Reed asked, expecting the worst.

"Jim...Jimmy...nothing is wrong. In fact everything is perfect. Do you know how long I've waited for this moment? FOREVER! You see, Jimmy… I'm gay..."

"But....." Reed interrupted.

"I know I don't act it and I’ve hid it very well...in the line of work we're in, we have to. Mac knows and that's about it"

"What about your own partner?"

"That's just it! Jimmy, he was my partner in every sense of the word."

"You mean?"

"Ya, that's right. We had a very special relationship and I'll go into that later, but right now all I want to do is this!"

Malloy placed his hand behind Reed's neck and pulled him forward. He lightly brushed his lips over Reed's. He captured the bottom lip between his teeth, flicking the tip of his tongue over the surface, moistening it before releasing it and doing the same with the upper one.

Every thought of Jean promptly fled Reed's mind as he felt his partner’s tongue sliding along the seam of his lips, seeking entry. Heat grew in his belly, spreading down. Without another thought, he parted his lips in invitation and Malloy wasted no time in taking advantage of it. Reed moaned as Malloy’s tongue speared into his mouth.

Malloy raised his head slightly. "Give me your tongue, Jimmy," he murmured.

Reed eagerly obeyed, sighing as Malloy drew it into his mouth, raking the edges of his teeth over the sensitive surface before suckling on it with deep passion.

Malloy finally removed his mouth from Reed's but proceeded to work his way over the smooth vulnerable throat, sucking on the pulse point in the hollow of his neck. He slipped his hand to the front of Reed's shirt, and then slowly, as he unbuttoned each button, he kissed each area of exposed flesh. When the shirt was wide open, Malloy moved his mouth to one nipple to another making each bud hard.

Reed arched his back in pleasure with his fingers entwining in Malloy's hair, holding him close.

"Ah....ah...Pete!"

"You like that, Jimmy?" Malloy asked, his green eyes glowing with passion.

Reed nodded.

"Do you want me to stop?"

"No...please... don't!"

Malloy laughed as be bent his head to scatter kisses down Reed's torso. He paused to trace his fingers over Reed's crotch. "Does this feel good, baby?" Malloy asked, as he squeezed Reed. "Tell me, partner. Tell me how much you like what I'm doing!"

"AAAHHHH… God, Pete!" Reed whimpered. "It feels great! OOOOOOHHHH!"

"You want more?"

Reed answered with a kiss.

Malloy undid his partner’s belt and button, slowly and teasingly pulled down the zipper, then hooked his fingers in the waistband and tugged the pants and shorts down over Reed's hips and thighs all the way off, until they lay in a heap on the floor. He moved his head down, until his mouth reached Reed's hard member, and proceeded to give his partner the best oral sex he had ever encountered.

Reed orgasm shook him to the very core and, placing his hand over Malloy's, he helped his partner reach his own pleasure. With tears of pure joy and pleasure in his eyes, he fell into Malloy's arms and the two men just lay there in the warmth of each other's arms until they regained their composure.

About thirty minutes passed without either man saying a word. Finally, Malloy pushed Reed away and sat up.

"Jim, there is something serious I have to discuss with you. After you hear me out, you will have to decide if you want our relationship to continue. I believe in a discipline relationship. What I mean by that is….I live by a set of rules and I expect my heart-partner to follow the rules. My old partner had a tendency to act out on occasion and get worked up over certain events. The only way to control that was to discipline him either by time-outs or, if the situation warranted it, a spanking. I've seen you in certain situations where you could have used a bit of discipline, but I didn't carry it out because you did not belong to me. Now I feel you've given yourself to me, but in order for us to move forward you have to be willing to agree to my set of rules."

Reed didn't say anything for several minutes. He was trying to absorb what Malloy was telling him. He got dressed and sat back down next to his new lover. "Would I have a say in what the rules would be?"

"Of course, Jimmy. Our relationship would not be one of a dictatorship, but it would be the same as it is in our professional life. I'm the senior partner and I make most of the major decisions and take responsibility for your well-being."

"Well, Pete, you've never let me down there and I do admit sometimes I do feel myself loosing control and I don't know how to handle it, so maybe your way is what I really need." Reed snuggled up against Malloy once more, then taking a deep breath he asked Malloy for circumstances in which he would be disciplined.

Rubbing Reed's back in a comforting gesture, Malloy proceeded to give Reed examples of what would constitute a disciplinary action and what level of punishment.

"Rule number one. When you sulk over certain situations, like always having to answer call-ins for unwarranted parking tickets; or being unprofessional when we respond to a call, you will have to stand in the corner for an pre-determined period of time, to think over how your actions affected your day and mine. You may even have to write lines on why you shouldn't have acted the way you did, understand?"

"Yes sir!" Reed answered respectfully.

"Fine! Rule Number two. If you ever pull stunts like you did on our first day we rode together. You remember when I told you to stay behind that tree, and you decided to take matters in your own hands, and nearly scared me to death? Or, like last month, when you decided to go into that warehouse before proper backup arrived and put both our lives at risk? When we arrived home, you would get a sound spanking on your bare butt with my hand or a paddle, depending on the seriousness of the situation. Do you understand?"

With eyes downcast, Reed nodded in the affirmative and, after some deep thought, he pulled away from Malloy to look deep into his green eyes. What he saw there made him realize this was the type of relationship he wanted and needed. He saw so much love, caring, understanding and assurance as well as respect. He threw his arms around Malloy's neck and, placing soft warm kisses all over Malloy's face, he answered, "I understand, Pete, and I agree with this set of rules and I promise I will do my best to never let you down and be the best partner you ever had!"

Malloy began to laugh. "Hey, Jimmy. I don't expect you to change your whole personality to try to please me. That's not what the rules are about. They’re just set up to help you handle situations and make life easier for you and, in turn, life will be better for me, too."

"Okay, Pete. I think I understand, but you'll have to be patient with me. Right?"

"Aren't I always, Junior? Aren't I always?"

"Ya, I guess you are. Ah, Pete....have you ever had to be disciplined?"

"Why do you want to know that?"

"It will help me to know that you understand what I'm going through."

"I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but to answer your question; yes. I have been disciplined. Not often, but remember, I was a green rookie once myself"

"Who spanked you? Was it Mac?"

"Very observant, Junior! Yes, it was Mac. It helped me, so I know and understand it will help you."

"I'd love to hear that story, Pete."

"Maybe someday, but not at this time. Right now let's go to bed and give me the chance to really make you mine, if you think you’re ready for that next step."

"Oh, Pete. I'm more ready than mere words can express. Take me and make me yours."

With those final words, Pete led Jim into the bedroom to begin their new life together.

The End
